Re: New here

  • Welcome! How's your planning going? Pictures of your furbabies? (Or rather, step-furbabies?)
  • I'm interested in what you do. I just graduated with my A.A in accounting and worked with accounts receivable in an office for a year and decided I do not really like it.  I'm in the process of transferring to another college. I was thinking about doing something similar one day. If I could ask some questions it would be great, but understand it's personal info.
    1. Did you get a degree in PR?
    2. What do you do now?
    3. You said you worked at a vineyard doing special events (like weddings and functions) and  was that something you did with the PR degree?
    4. Do you like what you do?
    5. I was thinking of getting my degree in Hospitality and trying to eventually get a job at a high end hotel. I live in Florida and and live near a very touristy high end area that has a very big attraction for destination weddings.

So I can kiss you anytime I want.
  • Thanks for the warm welcome! The planning is going well so far. All the big decisions were made early (things book up quickly in DC/MD/VA), so we are in the nice lull before we have to pull the trigger on the next round. Invites are being finalized now, so that will be the next "oh my gosh, this is happening" trigger, methinks.

The cats are camera shy, so I don't have any great shots of them, although I keep trying.

    Now on to Bowlingball10's questions:

    1) my undergrad is in communications, graduate degree in liberal studies. I think my work experience - and willingness to pitch in on any project - helped advance my career more than any degree could
    2) I work for an association of state officials
    3) Not related at all - I was just finishing up my masters at GU and hated my admin job, so I took a job doing events at a vineyard in northern VA to see if after graduation I wanted to move to CA and do that full time at a big operation. I realized after three years of never having a Saturday night off in the summer that it wasn't for me long-term, but I loved being out in the country and the staff I worked with were amazing.
    4) I like what I do, and the organization I work for is great. I believe in the mission, and I have support from my boss and coworkers.
    5) I don't know much about the hospitality industry, but good luck if you pursue that route!

Accounting is such a basic function, and one not many do well - I would think that experience would be invaluable no matter where your career takes you. Good luck!
  • Thanks I appreciate answering all my questions.
So I can kiss you anytime I want.
  • @swimguppy - which vineyard?! I live in MD and we LOVE going to NOVA for wine tasting :)  Chrysalis is our FAVORITE! Also - we had an awesome time at quattro goomba this past February!

    Welcome!

  • I worked at Tarara - I haven't been back in ages, I hear it is really different now, so I am due to head out for a visit (and yes, we did get wine bonuses - I really miss that!).

A friend took me on a rafting trip, and I fell in love the first splash. Kayaking in the DC area is pretty good, so I started paddling a few years ago. I'm not very good, but it's fun to get out on the water in the summer.
  • I would LOVE to work at a winery.  I've never been to Tarara!
