October 2013 Weddings

How many other weddings are you attending this year?

Normally, we have about 3 a year. One year, we had 6.

This year - it is just us! And I find this so strange (since it is very different from the past 8 years of us being together.)

Just curious!

Re: How many other weddings are you attending this year?

  • Last year we had ten.

We went to one already in April. Got invited to one in Aug that we wont be going to. Ours and then FI's cousin two weeks after ours.

  • I went to one last month and will be going to one next month. I've only been to two other weddings in my life, so this is a pretty wedding-heavy year.

  • Last year we had about 6 or 7, the year before that we had 4 I think, and this year it's us and two others. The years before that, we had very few - everyone we know who is dating just seemed to get married within a 3 year stretch!
  • I've been to 6 weddings my entire life. 2 of them I was under the age of 10. It makes me sad, but most of our friends are choosing to not get married, I guess. Or maybe the wedding boom will just come later.

We are the only wedding this year.

  • We've been invited to 2 others, and... they're both Sept 21, lol. We'll only be going to one. So it's that one, and then ours. That's all I know of.
  • We are invited to 3 others besides ours this year. One we didn't go to earlier this month. Another one in July, that we are flying to Cali for and then we have another, one week before ours. We already have 2 for next summer, will plenty more to come.
  • I don't think I've ever declined a wedding invite. But, I haven't been invited to ones outside of this area.

Wait...that might be a lie...maybe one or two were for extended family members out of state. But, my parents didn't go and I'm not even 100% I was invited!

As I say - slow year for us. Stina - you win with 10. That's a lot of weddings! (Large family? Sorority? Still in touch with high school friends? Super popular?)

  • Just one besides ours.  The nice thing about being 36 and 38 is most of our wedding "rush" years are behind us.   There were a couple summers of 5 or 6 weddings, but I was a college or grad student for much of that, so I fear my gifts weren't top notch.

I'm particularly happy not to be IN any weddings other than my own this year,  I already own 7 bridesmaids dresses.

  • Just ours so far! We went to two last year.

It was June 2012- two of my friends (separate weddings) and one of FI's set of friends (3)

July 2012- My friend and then one of FI's friends, Fri and Sat same weekend (2)

Aug- My sister and another friends (2)

Sept- FI's sister and one of my friends (2)

    Nov-FI's cousin (1)=10

To top it off.... I was invited to 6 of those bridal showers and 4 of my high school friends were pregnant due in June, July, Sept, and Oct. so I had all of their showers too.

I was poor at the end of the summer that is for sure.

No sorority, just high school friends I stuck with and family. FI's friends are people he hung out with since HS too.

  • Most of my friends either don't believe in the institution of marriage or aren't legally allowed to marry thanks to the government.

  • @Coopergirl15 - I just got an invite for a friends wedding. We've been friends since we were 17 (10 yrs) and worked in retail together. I have been with FI for over five years and she has met him several times. The invite was listed as "Ms. Stina & Guest". They are getting married 1.5 months before us. I've never met her FI, but his name is actually on the invite.

The Cherry on top of it all, the RSVP card has a spot in the upper right hand corner that says "place postage here".

  • 0 Haven't been to a wedding in maybe 7 years. We do have a bit of a destination one next year on the schedule.
  • @lifeissweeter -- how do you manage that and are you willing to go to some of mine for me?

I think it's because all my high school friends either got married real young or still have yet to settle down. And other than them, I really don't have many friends my own age. Kinda sad because I definitely wouldn't mind having one or so a year to attend.

  • Last year we didn't go to any. The year before: 1. The year before that: 1. We may have one that comes up here this summer, but not sure. We are getting married young (both of us will be 23) so most of our friends are either single or still dating around.

  • We had one in May and are going to one in July and Aug.  Then ours! :)
