Rehearsal dinner invite wording

Our rehearsal dinner is likely going to be paid for by either my fiance's father or mother. I am sending out informal invitations. Is there some special way I word them since we're not the ones hosting it?

We're not having a traditional RD, but we're doing a BBQ for all guests (so many out of towners) that FI's parents are hosting.  We have an insert for the wedding invites that says "Mr. and Mrs. John Doe invite you to a BBQ in honor of J and D's wedding to be held...", so you could do something like "Jane Doe invites you to dinner following the rehearsal."  I don't think that looks too formal if the rest of the invite is casual.

Lots of people don't even do invitations for the RD, people just tell others by word of mouth.
