Needing Venue Ideas

Hi Ladies, this is my first post in these forums but I'm really looking for some ideas fitting the following criteria.  I was set on a venue like the Lake Valhalla club, but we don't come near their guest minimum and I feel like it had everything my fiance and I wanted from a venue.  I am hoping that someone out there has some suggestions for venues (reception only) that sound like what i am looking for.

Central to North Jersey (North Preferred)
looking for something not-so cookie cutter
Guest list of approx 115
Friday and Saturday evenings available in the month of April (or May if cost allows)
No need for ceremony area, as we are looking for a church ceremony
Up to 120ish per plate (so, including tax and gratuity, up to 145 per plate)
and of course, some Knottie stamps of approval!

Thanks in advance for any ideas you come up with!  for the past 6 months i haven't come across much that fits the bill, and I'm hoping i have missed something!

  • DId you check out the Lake Mohawk Country Club?  Its got that lake setting with a "beach and boardwalk".  I think there are a few Lake Mohawk brides on here.  I can't remember what their minimum was and its def within your price range.

  • Check out David's Country Inn in Hackettstown.  I don't remember their pricing, but I believe it was within your range.

  • I'm a LVC bride and we looked at Lake Mohawk Country Club in Sparta.  Very similar feel and you are right on the lake.  We ultimately chose LVC because of the beer selection (my FI is a craft beer snob lol).

The price was better than LVC though and I don't think they had as high of a min.

  • I would also recommend The Grand Summit Hotel.  It's one event at a time, an old beautiful hotel, and great food.  Good luck!
  • I think this is a bit out of the box, but what about McLoone's Boat House in West Orange?

  • that might be nice but I am not sure if mccloones would be able to accomodate the ballroom/dance floor part. We are doing our wedding at the women's club of glen ridge. We had to find outside caterer but there was no minimum. there is also the women's club of ridgewood. there is one in montclair and then another in englewood which you really might like that one but with our guest list that one was too small for us but it is gorgeous.
  • I'm having my wedding in October at the Smoke Rise Village Inn in Kinnelon, NJ. Definitely, wasn't looking for anything cookie cutter and similar to all Jersey Venues. Smoke Rise is a big stone building that in a private, gated community. There is a man made beach/lake area, that we are hoping to have our pictures taken there. We are having our ceremony at the Church within the community a as well. http://smokerisevillageinn.com/ Good Luck!
  • thanks everyone for the suggestions!  we're going to start making appointments at some of them and look forward to seeing them all!
