Gift-Grabby Wedding Invitation

My co-worker just told me this story and I knew that you all would appreciate it.  An old co-worker of hers had always said that he never wanted to get married because he didn't want to lose any money in a divorce or rather "pay money to his wife" because, you know, a divorce equals a paycheck to the other party.  Anyway, he eventually got engaged to a doctor (someone he wouldn't have to worry about stealing his money?) and my co-worker received an invitation to his wedding.

His destination wedding to Mexico (we're in Virginia).  And she received it TEN DAYS before the wedding.  So, that's bad enough because she wasn't just B-listed, they didn't want her to come at all, but guess what was on the invitation.  "Send gifts to this address."

She declined the invitation and told him to his face that there was no way she could make plans with such short notice.  She didn't send a gift, either.  A month later, they sent a wedding announcement that also had the "Send gifts to this address" message on it.  Klassy.

Nice. Perhaps a more subtle choice would have been:

"The newlyweds will reside at 123 Main Street, Anytown, USA"

Haha...but that ship has certainly sailed for this lovely couple!

  • I actually really like seeing their new address in the programs. Just in case I want to send a Christmas and or something.
  • I have no problem with including addresses in the programs.  I think that's helpful.  Also, if you're seeing the program, you've probably already brought a gift.

It's actually stating outright, "Send gifts here" and on the invitation that I have an issue with.

    I agree. That was pathetic.
  • Ew.  That's beyond classy

  • Does this remind anyone else of the episode of Seinfeld with the wedding in India?
