Affordable Hair & Makeup in Dallas??

I'm on a low budget for our June wedding, and I'm looking for someone to do my hair and makeup. I'm legally blind and know I won't be able to see well enough to do myself, but I think I can pull my hair up on my own if I have to. The cheapest price I've been quoted just for WEDDING DAY MAKEUP (no hair or bridal portraits) was $430 -- way out of my range. I don't have any bridesmaids, friends or family who will do it for me. I'd be willing to use someone just starting out if they practiced on me first. Using a makeup counter at a department store isn't a good option because the wedding is at 2 p.m. and we have to be at the church at noon.

Any recommendations? The wedding is taking place off 75 iin Richardson.

• No, no that's way too high. I'm not sure what the going rates now are but I would think you could get both hair and makeup for less than that. Check out Knockout Beauty http://m.knockout-beauty.com/#!Home|home_page Nicole Cano http://www.theknot.com/Vendors/Queen-of-Crowns-Hair-and-Makeup-By-Nicole-Cano/Profile/HBF/006/503952/profile Angie Williams http://www.awweddinghair.com/
• There's also Erin Gobin and Kristin Colaneri.

Angie was $195 for hair and makeup in 2011.

• Contact Cat at Knockout Beauty! She is so great, sweet, and super affordable! See would be around $150 to $200 cheaper than what you listed above for hair and airbrush make- up. She does a run-thru free of charge & uses great eyelashes.
• Thanks so much for the suggestions ... I'll contact them for pricing!

• Oh, thanks so much for that pricing. Was that for hair & makeup for the wedding day only or also for the bridal portraits?

Kristen is wonderful she was my MUA but 245 for wedding day only.
• Nicole was 175 I think for hair and makeup wedding day only.

And yes, MAC or Sephora will do your makeup if you buy a $50 gift card. I've done it 3 times at Sephora and always been VERY happy.
• Stephie,
I thought you'd used Kristin, but I couldn't remember. ;) I should have known there was a reason you didn't recommend her!

• Speaking of hair & makeup, my friend who just graduated cosmetology school offered to do everyone's hair and makeup for free for me. I'm just worried she won't have enough time as there is 8 of us (me plus 7 BMs) and only 1 of her. Do you think this is possible, or should I just have her for hair, and someone else for makeup, or maybe some BMs just do their own makeup? What do you guys think?

It is possible, but it would take for-ev-er. My MUA and her assistant did my hair and makeup along with 4 BMs and it still took 2+ hours. Usually the bride is the last to go so that hers is the freshest, and you don't want to put yourself in a situation where she isn't close to being done with the BM's and have to rush on yours so you can get to the Church on time.
My sister had 7 BM's, and the salon that she brought in sent 5 people to do our hair and makeup. There was one additional gril that came in that only did my sister's hair/mu. They started at 10 and we were done around 2.
• Yeah, I agree. I had five bridesmaids, my mom, and me getting hair and makeup and Angie brought in an assistant to do everyone's makeup while she focused on hair.

No I don't, honestly. Most professional MUA's require you have them bring an assistant after 5 people. With one person, you are looking at over 8 hours for both hair and makeup.

Darn, that's what I thought. My MOH also offered that she can do ppl's makeup. Maybe I should let her do that, or maybe some ppl can do their own? Or maybe I should just hire someone just for makeup... Do you think it's possible to have my friend do everyone's hair (wedding is at 4 pm) if BMs hairstyle is pretty simple, not too complicated? Or is that pushing it too still?
• We went from 9-4 with a half hour break to eat for 3 girls full hair and makeup plus one girl for just eyelashes. Luckily we planned a lot of cushion time, but we ended up using all of it.

Are you set on having everyone's makeup done? I was fine with all of my friends doing their own, but a few wanted theirs done.

Honestly, with that many BMs, I would just let the girls do their own and let the professionals/friend MUA focus solely on you. The MOH has to get ready herself as well as help you--I don't think it's really fair to ask her to do makeup as well.

The getting ready time is so chaotic because inevitably, it's the time so many other things are happening (vendors arriving, friends want to see you, etc.) We took from 1-5 for just 3 of us with an MUA and a trainee assistant and I ended up wishing we had started even earlier.

Let the focus be on you. Everyone else will look fine doing their own.
• Carrie, I don't know about skipping the makeup, since only 1 of the girls really does her makeup on a regular basis & does it well. The rest of them either don't usually wear much makeup or aren't very good at it to be honest.

Aaand it turns out my friend was only offering to do my hair for free, and the rest of the girls at $25 a pop... Darn... So much for saving money... Better than nothing I guess.

• Hi this is Kristin..... Stephanie used me and has been so wonderful to support me for all these years. I wanted to make sure that my pricing was represented here correctly as well as in a positive way. I charge $245 for day of wedding day for air brush makeup as well as bridal hair..... so that is for both not only makeup. thank you and happy planning!
