XP Would it be weird to contact the photographer?

I was a BM in my friend's wedding a few weeks ago, and during a couple slow songs I noticed the photographer's assistant taking some pictures of me and my boyfriend dancing. Would it be out of line for me to contact the photographer and see if he has those pictures and if I could pay for a copy? My BF and I are going on 3 years but we still don't have many pictures together, and all the ones my parents took of us turned out blurry.

He is a friend of the bride's family and I've met him a few times before, so I wouldn't necessarily feel awkward, I just don't know if it would be ok. And if I do, does it matter if I make the request before or after the bride gets her pictures?

Re: XP Would it be weird to contact the photographer?

  • I would ask the bride first personally.  And then if she does not know if they are for purchase, I would contact the photographer.  Our photographer has an online site set up for our guests to purchase pictures, so maybe your bride will have something similar for her wedding?  We received the photo's first and then we were able to release it to our friends/family and guests when we were ready (we released a few days after we received them); If there is not a purchase option available I would at least wait until the bride got the pictures before you made any requests.  Just let her know you are interested in purchasing some pictures of you and your boyfriend from the wedding and see if you can order through her or should you contact the photographer directly.

  • Most photographers actually post all pics on a website and the bride/groom gives access to their guests to order any pictures they like. At least, that is how it works around here.

  • Sweet, I'll ask her first. Thanks!

You also don't know what type of package she has. My photographer is just handing over the rights to the pics to us and there will be no ordering...so everyone could just gets the pics from me in your situation.

My photographer does both. If a guest asked me, I'd probably be happy to send them the digital file, or give them the option to buy the print from the photographer herself. It will probably be better quality than a costco print.
