DJ HELP!

Hi everyone!! My wedding is on 10/6/12 and I am somewhat new to the disgussion boards. I am having the HARDEST time finding a DJ,  prob because I dont know where to start! Our wedding is in Alsip.  Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks!

Re: DJ HELP!

  • We used Dancetraxx.  Todd was great.  I've also seen a lot of brides on here use Windy City Mix.  We met with Rodrigo (the owner) when we were shopping around and he was very nice.
  • Met with 5, windy city was ghetto for our taste and found bad reviews.... Some other big name companies were too traditional wedding old disc jockey typical and we hate that. Went with Okyne media labs. Young, fresh, up to date and modern. Loved them from first meeting and all the countless emails I sent bfore booking
  • Have you thought about what you are looking for in a dj?

    Questions like:
    What is your budget?
What kind of dj do you want?  someone who entertains on the mic or someone who let's the music speak for itself
Does the dj need to be versed in certain ethnic music?
Do you want someone who plays music/transitions to the next song like a jukebox or are you looking for a club mixer?
Are you looking for a dj that specializes in special genre or a little bit of everything? (motown, jazz, r&b, disco, house, pop, hip hop, etc).
Do you want bass heavy music or low volume background music?
Do you want the dj to have a light show?

All of these questions will help you define what it is that YOU are looking for.

  • We are using Toast and Jam. They have been ver flexible to work with and so nice. They are a little high, but they didn't charge extra for being in a separte room for the cocktail hour, while some other places do. I reccomend them

  • We're using Toast & Jam, too.  The main thing I loved about them is that you meet with your actual DJ before booking with them.  Most of the other companies I looked at just assign one to you at some point after booking with them, and sometimes you wouldn't have any direct contact with them at all.  We had Emily assigned to us before our first meeting, and we got to talk to her about specific things we wanted before putting down any money or commitments.  They're not the cheapest DJ's out there, but from what I've read and experienced so far, it's worth the little extra we'll be paying.
  • We are using Answer Back Entertainment. They are very good and offer uplighting as well. We booked them, because we did see them at a friends wedding. Their setup and lights we're really professional looking and music they played all night, kept the floor packed. Their website is www.abdjs.com

We saw Roberto Monestero at a wedding and LOVED him.  He was very interactive and reacted to the crowd.  He never let the dance floor clear out.  He was fantastic.
  • thank you everyone!
  • We are using A Posh Production!  Matt has been great to work with, and he's VERY affordable.
  • We used DJ Speedy B Entertainment, the owner Mark was fantastic.
We saw him perform at a friends wedding and I felt like I had to use him for ours.
He was the only DJ who met with us 2 times and helped go over all the music for our big day.  He made a lot of suggestions that were so creative.  He even made extended versions of songs, re-mixed songs and made some song "mash ups" for us to use for our entrance and for our first dances, everyone at our wedding was so impressed and still talk about it.
He is certainly unique and does a great job over all and the best part he worked really well with our budget.
    Good Luck!
