Time of Ceremony?!?!

We're getting married next April (WOOOO), and the time of the ceremony is something I have NO clue on! The ceremony will be at a horse farm outside of Charleston, SC. What's your favorite time of day for a wedding??

We are having an evening ceremony, starting at 6:15 with cocktail hr and reception immediately after.

Our wedding is at 5 with reception beginning at 6:30 and lasting until 10/10:30. I believe that 6:00 constitutes a formal wedding which we wanted to avoid.

Oh yes! A formal wedding is NOT what we are looking for. Our ceremony seating will be hay bales.

The time of the ceremony dictates what will be served at the reception. If you're looking to do an informal ceremony/reception with no meal served I would suggest a 1:30 or 2pm wedding with reception starting immediately after. That way you can serve finger foods and hors d'ouvres along with beverages.

Since my wedding is more formal, I am having ours at 530 or 6. My friend had a rustic wedding outside with receotion and she had hers at 430

Our wedding is going to be small, outdoor, and casual. We are planning on starting at 4pm.

My mom, who is a little superstitious, likes weddings that start after the half hour. She thinks it is good luck for the clock to go up. Just something you may want to think about. I think it's cute.

I like late afternoon or early evening weddings. The light is just so nice at that time of day if you are doing an outdoor wedding. You also want to take your venues into consideration. For example, some venues I'm looking at are open to the public during the day so weddings must start after 5 pm. And a lot of reception venues are by the hour. If you start your reception earlier, it's going to cost you more if you have an end time in mind.

My ceremony is at 7. Definitely a little late for my taste but because the venue has an afternoon wedding it's when we would have to start. I think I would've ideally liked 5:30/6:00.

Anyone know the "average" time for formal weddings?

Barnbride, I think 530 would be alright. As long as you have the correct lighting with it being in a barn/outside.
