So I had my hair trial today with a lady from my mother's salon. I showed her about 8 pictures of 40's inspired hair dos. Big loose curls, sleek side part, face-framing, hair down. All of the pictures looked like that. So what does she do? She flat irons my hair, takes out a 1" barrel curling iron, and then proceeds to tease the ever loving shiz out of every single lock as she gives me stringy poodle curls in the back, pins some of it up around the crown of my head, "so the veil will stick," and then tucks the layers of my hair that are already cut in a face framing style back, so they're... well...
not framing my face. Like all of the pictures I showed her.
When she was about half way through, i said "I really don't like small curls. I want bigger ones." and she actually said to me, "Well, throughout the night, the curls will look bigger." Umm... what? No. Throughout the night, if you haven't prepped your hair properly, the curls will go flat, and seriously, even if what you're saying is true (which it's not) I'm not really worried about what it will look like at the end of the reception. I want it to look right from the beginning. My hair is not wine. I am not waiting for it to age to accrue the perfect... tanens or whatever the heck wine does. One of the other stylists asked me how I liked what she did, and I said I didn't like the little curls, and she looked at my stylist and said "Why didn't you use a 1.5 or 2 inch barrel iron and do bigger sections of hair...?" my stylist had no freaking answer for her.
It honestly felt like my stylist is one of those people who only knows how to do one style: half up poodle curls for the homecoming dance. So even though I showed her pictures, she gave me the one thing she knows how to do.
I decided I'm going to do my own hair. My mom took me out and bought me some awesome products, and I just went to BB&B with a handy dandy coupon and a gift card from my bridal shower and got some jumbo hot rollers. I'm going to go out tomorrow and get some frizz-control shampoo and conditioner. Any suggestions?
