rehearsal dinner

So, I've really been struggling with the rehearsal dinner because we are hosting it ourselves, and we don't want to spend a ton of money on it. The two places that were top of our list to have it at aren't available, so the search began. I have talked to so many places and they were all either unavailable or crazy expensive (like, $2000 minimum F&B charges).

I just got off the phone with a restaurant 15min from our ceremony site and they are available, don't have room rental/staff fees, and have a taco bar option which is only $12/person. I am pretty excited about this! Just have to talk to FI and I think I want to book it.

The other option that is affordable to us is having it catered at our house, but I really didn't want to do that because of the mess, and I worry that people would linger to long and not let me get appropriate rest the night before the wedding.

Whew, what a sigh of relief to almost have this taken care of!

  • Woot you go girl!

We started talking about this; also hosting ourselves and we were really wanting to go to Applebee's as a cutesy this is where we had our first date type thing, but financially I don't know if that will be an option so back to te drawing board!

@snippet17 the other place that I have it narrowed down to is a pizza place, another great option I found while pricing. Mexican or Italian were the ways to go to keep at a reasonable budget

ETA: So if FI doesn't want Mexican, we will be having pizzas.

  • We aren't having a rehearsal dinner...heck we aren't even sure we are going to get to have a rehearsal because of FI & his parents schedule with their restaurant! If we do end up having one we'll likely have it at his parents restaurant for the ease of it.
  • We're having our rehearsal dinner at Maggiano's. It's five minutes from our venue and has private rooms, so it was perfect. My fiance's parents are paying for it, so I don't know how much it actually costs.

  • Lebanese/Indian fusion sounds A-MAZING!

We are also paying for the RD ourselves and were amazed at how expensive everything was.  One place wanted us to spend at least $3000...that is a 1/4 of our whole wedding budget! So we looked at neighboring towns and found a fun little Italian place the is BYOB - which will definitely keep the beverage cost down!

  • We are renting the clubhouse that is part of our condominium and hosting and cooking a barbeque ourselves - it will probably just be burgers and hot dogs with a few different salad options, roasted corn and a tray of squares from a local baker. We considered having it catered but there will only be about 20 people attending, so it won't be too hard to do ourselves.
  • We're doing a very low key RD at FI's parents house. They used to farm so they have plenty of room for it. We are using one of our local pizza places that caters plus doing salads, chips/dips, and drinks. Total will be around $300 for 30 people.

  • I talked to FI last night and he said he would rather do Italian, so I am going to reach out to that restaurant today and hope they have availability!

To bad you don't live up here. Victorias in Appleton is really good and not expensive. We order out form there for work meetings all the time.

  • Do you ever make it down to Port Washington? That's where the place I am reaching out to is - Mama Mia's. The best garlic bread ever.

  • We're going to the original Salt Lick BBQ joint for our rehearsal dinner.  It's a BYOB joint, and I think the total cost for everyone is about $500 or less as it's per plate, with most of the adult plates running about $20/person.

I'm bucking the system and having my family from OOT who's flying in specifically for the wedding come to the rehearsal dinner.  I want to see them, introduce them to FI, plus, they're staying with my parents who are coming to the rehearsal, so it just seems rude to leave them at home.

And I ain't even sorry.  :)  Because, HELLO!  BBQ!!!!

We are having ours at spaghetti warehouse.  It is a within 10 minute drive from our venue. For 20 people it will cost us around $300 plus tip and taxes.

We are, too!  We'll have closer to 30 people, but it was the best option for us since we're paying for it.  We aren't paying for people's adult beverages, though- they can save it for the open bar the next day.
  • We are doing a welcome reception instead of a rehearsal dinner. I want to spend as much time as possible with the OOT guests, and our budget doesn't allow for us to host everyone for a sit-down meal.

And Shalagirl - you are making my mouth water! I was in Austin a few years ago for a conference and we went to Salt Lick for their amazing BBQ. I am a recovering vegetarian, and their pork was my first bite of meat in 7 years. Please have a rib for me!
