Book Recommendations

I am looking for something new to read.  Has anyone read anything good lately?  I am open to all types of books.  :-)

I like anything by Rachel Gibson.  She writes funny romance novels.  I just bought her new one but I haven't read it yet.  Also, I read all the Pretty Little Liar novels over the summer.  They were cheesy and a bit soap opera-ish but I did enjoy them nonetheless.

Is there a particular style of book you like to read?

One of my good friends (and fellow book nerd) said she absolutely loved the Hunger Games series - she read 2 of the 3 this weekend.  I just finished up 'The Hangman's Daughter', and it was pretty good.  I'm also obsessed with Charlaine Harris - I've read all of the Sookie Stackhouse series (True Blood was based on this), and the Harper Connelly series.  Oh, I think I was way behind everyone, but I loved 'The Girl with the Drago Tatoo' series too. HTH!

I just finished Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner last weekend.  I haven't read a book of hers that I have not liked.

If you need a good laugh, check out Jen Lancaster's memoirs.

I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

I will second the sookie stackhouse series they are a little slow on the first or second book but then they get REALLY good.

I really liked My life in Paris, its the biography of Julia Childs

China Study and In defense of food were both great books about food and the choices we make.

For a complete fluff read that you can get through in a couple hours but will have you cracking up (depending on what you find humorous) I really liked Suck it! Wonderwomen, I read this mostly while I was waiting at DRs offices and whatnot.

Those are the last ones I have read within the last couple months that I liked.

I always just go to the salvation army and buy random books. They are cheap and I donate them back.

    Have you read lovely bones?
I cried when I read lovely bones.

I'm reading a series by Tracy Madison... not sure if the series has a name, but the first book is A Taste of Magic.  It's a romance novel, but not a really sappy one.  I'm on the 3rd book of the series now (I think there are 4), and have enjoyed them.  It's kind of mindless reading :)

I love the Sarah Dunant books. She has a series of books that are based in the Renaissance era.

I also of course like all the Dan Brown books!

*I am also a HUGE fan of the Sookie Stackhouse series, i have all of them in paperback and on my kindle!
*I loved "The Ex-Debutant" and "Devil in the Junior League" by Linda Francis Lee, I seriously could NOT put them down
*The two books "Something Borrowed" and "Something Blue" from Emily Giffin are awesome, her other books were good but these two were my favorites
*I dont know if you are religious or not, and if you are what you follow BUT if you enjoy religious fiction, look up Francine Rivers her books are AMAZING her "The Mark of the Lion" serious is so unbelievable it made me cry at time

Those are the ones that I can think of right off the top of my head, but I am a huge nerd and read ALL of the time so I am sure I can think of even more

    I have read and second:
-The Lovely Bones (waaaaay better than the movie)
-Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers (even if you aren't religious this is an amazing read)
-Dan Brown books (lots of drama and twists!)
-Girl with the Dragon tattoo series (Though, its hard to get into them)

    I would also suggest:
-Kite Runner (very different than what I usually read, but in a good way)
-anything by Gregory Macguire (if you are feeling whimsical, these are fun books to read.  They are retellings of famous stories.  He wrote the famous "Wicked," and his other books are just as great.)

I am currently reading "We're Just Like You, Only Prettier" it's about southern women and how we are perceived.  Very Funny.

I second the Dan Brown suggestion...

And Janet Evanovich!  Her series is GREAT!

I'm a sci-fi/fantasy fan, and while it's an older book (that is typically considered  "juvenile") - Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card is a really good read (I thought) as well as the sequels.

Dan Brown's books are awesome because while mostly fiction most have at least some roots in actual history or truth so I always end up reading his books then doing research to figure out what was fiction and what was truth.
