DH got the job, but *sigh*

He did get the job. I'm of 2 minds about it, but I'm willing to ride it out and see what happens.  Once we see how it will interact with school, I'll either be totally on board or pretty peeved.  It's through the Americorp program, so the pay is horrible, but there is a tuition reimbursement each year he works for them that is significant since our state university is still fairly affordable.  And I know he'll love the job.  He's basically in charge of all of the public school gardens and the outreach to the school system that has to go along with that.   And while it doesn't put up back into the income bracket we were in, it's a lot more comfortable than it has been.  There is also a good opportunity here to be involved with a not-for-profit that is new, being run by someone who is very successful and experienced at doing what this NFP is doing.  So, it's okay, for now.  I told him we'd give it a year and then re-evaluate next summer (it's a year-to-year grant position).

But his parents.  Good lord.  All they think about and care about is the status/$.  And I'm kind of tired of it.  I think they're still punishing him for not going to stupid little BIL's bday in Vegas and not visiting them and whatever else perceived slight they feel like exists.  And really...even if we were still in the income bracket before, what we do/don't do with our time and money is not their damn business/concern.  And I know DH is actually bothered this time that all they did was question him re: salary (which he didn't share with them) and not congratulate him on the job.

  • Is this in line with what he is studying?  I can't remember.

But yes, a job is a job.  Money is money.  And this sounds a heck of a lot more prestigious that working nights at a gas station or whatever else might fit with his school schedule.

I just a friendly gal looking for options.

Wait, he's going to school AND has a job that is also helping schools and they aren't happy?  They suck.  Congrats from internet strangers!
  • Zsa, it's not in line w/what he's studying really.  He's going into geology, with the computer science.  Part of his responsibility will be their website.

He has grown to LOVE gardening.  Our garden this year is 1200 square feet for the main one and then a smaller 300 square foot herb garden.  He takes care of it all and loves it.  So, basically, he's getting paid to do his hobby at other places at this point.  Which is GOOD, b/c he's trying to take over the front yard and make it a community garden and I keep killing the dream.  He can go do community someplace else.  :D

  • It sounds like a good fit for him and a great opportunity to give back to the community.  Congrats to him for understanding the important things in life better than the rest of his family does.  :)

  • YAY for the job and the benefit of tuition reimbursement is amazing.

    Sorry his parents are assholes.

  • Congrats! Also your ILs sound like real peaches.
