Wedding Invitations & Paper

Should I buy this early?

I'm getting married December 28th of this year and just got an email from the company I'm buying invites from that they are having a 4th of July sale and are having 30% off wedding stationary! My mom and I already created the invitations on this website so that work is done. Is it too early though to purchase the invitations? I feel like its early but I haven't seen a deal this good on the website before...thoughts?

Re: Should I buy this early?

  • We ended up having to change our venue about 6 months out, and I was so glad I hadn't already had invitations printed. Just something to keep in mind!

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Thanks! Haha I hope I don't have to change venues, its already in the middle of nowhere, not sure where else we could do it unless we went to an empty WalMart...creepy!

  • If you pretty positive about your venue I would take advantage of the sale...  Most places have sales often, but you never know!
  • Do you have your entire day-of timeline ready to go?

You won't be able to change your ceremony/reception start time once you order them.

  • I would only order if you are positive about your ceremony and reception times and have them in a written contract with your venue.
  • We have the church booked for 430 and the reception is actually booked starting the Friday morning until sunday at noon-they are super generous! I feel positive about the timeline. The invitation has the time of the ceremony and the insert is worded as such:

Please join us for dinner and dancing following the ceremony: Hotel, address

Reception will open at 530 with bridal party entering at 600. Dinner and dancing until 1030.

Then I have hotel room booking information on the back.

Thank you ladies for your input!

  • I ordered statioonary in February for my late September wedding to take advantage of a good sale.  As long as none of the details required (location, time, meal choices, etc) are still up in the air, I'd say go for it.  My DOC had actually encouraged us to know what we wanted for stationary ahead of time, so if we did come across a good deal, we could be ready to take advantage.
  • As long as you're set on everything, and don't mind storing them for a few months, then go for it! Take advantage of all the savings you can. My invitations took a little longer to arrive than I expected, so I was happy I ordered them early and I didn't have to sweat them arriving on time.

It's only 6 months before the wedding.  In 3 months, you're going to probably want to start getting them addressed.  Plus account for printing/shipping and the fact that you don't want to wait until the last minute.  So maybe you're a couple months ahead of the game?

We ordered our invites about 7 months in advance.  We found them, liked them, so we ordered.  Why wait?  One more thing off your plate.

  • I ordered mine almost a year ahead of time and it was fine! I wanted to get the free shipping so we ordered everything when I ordered the save the dates. Once everything is booked, the likelihood of something big like your venue changing is pretty small.
  • My wedding date is the exact same as yours (YAY DEC) and I'm actually ordering mine today. Not because of a sale or anything, but because I'm going to address them myself (and I'm in school starting in August so it may take me quite a while). I didn't think it was that early - I've already planned most of the wedding and people have been telling me I'm on the late side for most things!

Take advantage of the sale! Weddings are expensive enough as is.
