Non Milwaukee unique/trendy site

Hi everyone!  I'm new here, and to this whole wedding planning thing!  I am looking for a ceremony/reception site.  I really like the unique sites that are avaliable in the 3rd Ward in downtown Milwaukee, but not the price tag..  Both of my parents are contributing to the wedding, but his are not, so we are going to end up paying for anything over 10k ourselves, and both have big families:(  Are there any sites that anyone knows of that will give us a similar overall vibe but that are not in such a pricey area?  I am ideally looking for an outdoor ceremony/indoor reception. I know I do not want a hotel/banquet hall.  Any ideas?  We know we are going to go over the 10k (which doesn't include dress/hair/shoes) just don't want to spend money we don't have too:)

  • I am using the Black Swan if you are willing to travel outside of Milwaukee - it's in Grafton. Really reasonable rental rate, and open catering so you can use whoever you want (even bring in your own food). They also have a liquor license that allows you to bring in your own booze which saves a TON from the catering perspective.

  • Is Friday/Sunday an option?  Our neighbors have a similar budget and are using Warehouse in Milwaukee.

  • We also wanted a trendy downtown venue and definitely not a banquet hall or hotel and decided on using Hinterland for the reception. So far we are IN LOVE with it! There is no cost to rent the restaurant out, but you will be right at your 10k mark in food (which I personally think is a good price considering the food will be amazing!). You said you have big families, so the only hitch may be that the max is 120 people for a seated dinner, but the event coordinator said if you did more of a mingling atmosphere/ heavy app buffet then you could get it to 150. You may also want to look into Cuvee, The Hamilton, Redline Milwaukee, or the Pritzlaff building.
  • If you like exposed brick, you might want to look into the South Shore Pavilion.
  • @hardlyhannah - We are also considering the Black Swan for a reception space.  I'm curious as to where you're holding your ceremony?  We are considering the pavilion at Lime Kiln Park nearby - do you have any other suggestions?
  • @amybaby4589 - we had it in the gallery space at the Arts Mill. It was beautiful - and really inexpensive. We had 150 people, which was tight but we made it work. You have to rent chairs if you have that many people though.

Here are some pictures that were emailed to me (that's all i have at work)
