hotel for guests

Anyone had a good experience with a downtown hotel for holding a book of rooms?  We'd like to offer a downtown option but are finding the prices to be high and amenities low.  Has anyone cracked the code for how to get a good deal or maybe something for the couple on the wedding night?

We aren't using downtown, but I have heard really good things about the Hyatt and the Millenium. I prefer the Hyatt personally, the amenities are better in my opinion. Maybe look at the Marriott in Newport if you don't like the hotels downtown. I would call the hotel and ask to speak to either a) the booking director - some places have them or b) the event coordinator for the hotel. The event coordinator will be able to let you know if there are more things going on at the time of your wedding (city wise and hotel wise) and possibly help set-up an afterparty, next day brunch, and stuff like that.
    GOOD LUCK!

Our guests stayed at the Westin and they were great to work with.  The room block price that they gave us was price was really good--over $100 less than the list price for the days.  In comparision, the price was $9 more per night than the Millenium and, in my opinion, the Westin is a much better hotel.   They even reserved some days at the front and back end of the wedding weekend of the wedding weekend to conform to our guests travel schedules.

We blocked rooms at Garfield Suites Hotel.  Each room is an actual suite with  a full kitchen.  The price is very reasonable.  $99 for a single and $129 for a two bedroom.  If  your guests book 10 nights, you get the penthouse suite for free for a night.  The penthouse suite is ideal to get ready in for the day of.  2 floor, full kitchen and a roof top deck.  The decor is kind of dated through out, but it is a really nice hotel.  Its also very close to bars and places to eat, which is nice for out of town guests.  Highly recommend working with Mick.  Also, you are allowed to bring in your own food and drinks, which works out nicely for the day of.  I posted Mick's email address below.

    Good luck!

I am using the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza - I booked rooms for $99 a regular room (either one king or two full size beds) and $129 for a suite.  I found other hotels with comparable prices downtown but chose the Hilton because it's so gorgeous and I wanted my out of town guests to have a unique place to stay.  Plus there's a great bar there and the location is convenient to most downtown locations.

I dealt with Kelly Carigan, who was very nice to work with - 513-665-2376.

We booked a block of rooms at the Garfield and the Westin.

At the Garfield For every 20 nights booked at the garfiield you get a free penthouse suite (3 bedrooms)- if you book 40 rooms, you get both penthouse suites! I'm hoping we can get one of those suites and the bridesmaids can use it to get dressed/makeup done in since it is 3 doors down from my venue.

The Westin was our "higher end" choice. They are giving us like a $400 suite for $120 for booking a block through them...so that is where we plan to spend the night.

    HTH!
