Mohawk House (Sparta) - Pricing?

Hoping to get some feedback on weddings at the Mohawk House... specifically with regard to pricing. We are looking to have just an intimate celebration of no more than 20 people (including us) for a casual dinner instead of a formal reception. Because the Mohawk House is relatively new and is more so known as a restaurant, we're having some trouble finding people's experiences there with regard to weddings.

We did contact them to inquire about their private rooms and they were reasonably priced at $38 per person for dinner. Didn't dare utter the word "wedding" or "reception"... I always worry that the second those words are attached to anything, the price shoots up by 250%. We plan on a very non-traditional day - no cake, no bouquet, no dancing, none of the hoopla that comes with big weddings at banquet halls. Just a small ceremony and a nice meal for our closest friends & family. Ideally we’d like to have the ceremony on-site (especially because weather can tricky in October), but not if it’s $500 for a 15 minute ceremony of course.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

  • We had our rehearsal dinner there.  I can't remember exactly what we paid, my in-laws graciously hosted the dinner.  All I can say is that they were very nice, and the food was excellent.

  • I've never attended an event here but I live in Sparta and go here a lot for dinner.  The food is awesome and I would imagine the back patio would be great for an outdoor ceremony.  Love this place!

  • I live in the area.  I like the food but don't love it; it's a bit more exotic than I prefer.  But the restaurant is beautiful.  That said, if you're doing the ceremony there, the outside in back leaves much to be desired.  It's small, not very attractive, and dominated by a bocce court.
