Flower dilemma

Our original wedding date was supposed to be in October and since we are having a rustic outdoor wedding I had planned on sunflowers from Costco.  Now our wedding has been moved up to the end of April.  I can't decide if I should keep the sunflowers (had also planned to incorporate them into our invitations) or change to a different flower, perhaps daisies.  Any input or suggestions?

Re: Flower dilemma

  •  I don't know if you can count on getting sunflowers at Costco in April. Also, for many people, sunflowers scream Autumn- so I would nix that idea. I'm not sure what area of the country your in- April is a bit late for daffodils in my area, but if they are available where you are then, perhaps they would be a good substitute.
  • you can save money getting in-season flowers from a local place. I did all local, in-season flowers (mainly because of the carbon footprint aspect) and I was shocked how much money I saved. probably $40 per centerpiece and A LOT on the bouquets. Plus now I won't be messing around with floral arrangements right before the wedding.

  • Thanks for the input.  Costco does have sunflowers year round.  I think I've decided to keep the sunflowers but mix in some other colors so they are more colorful and spring like.  I'm in Houston and Black Eyed Susans, which are very similar to the sunflower, bloom here all spring, summer and fall.
  • @Juliegirl1 I consider sunflowers a fall and spring flower.  Really it just depends on the color mix you use as to whether they look more fall or spring.  Go with some bright pinks, purples and lime greens and you should be good.

And a shoutout to black eyed susans!  They are my state flower :)

  • I think you can use sunflowers almost anytime of the year - well maybe not winter - they are bold and simply pretty.  I say keep them and add in the daisies and black-eyed Susan's as well.  Here's a picture that adds some other styles of flowers and colors in to the bouquet.
