Eurail Pass Recommendations (@thejucheidea)

hey @thejucheida - I was just perusing the honeymoon board and you recommended that someone use the eurail pass back in December of 2012.  I'm currently in the process of planning our honeymoon to Europe and debating on the Eurail pass. How was your experience with it - which countries did you visit? Did you use it mostly for travel between countries or travel within countries?  Any insight from you - or anyone else would be grand!

  • When we traveled in Europe we got the pass and used it to travel all throughout Scotland and England. We went to Edinburgh, Sterling, Bath, London, Liverpool and York. (there might be other's i'm forgetting)

The train was efficient, we had no problems with it! We also took the train from London to Paris, that was kind of freaky but saved us money vs flying.

  • I went to Europe about 10 years ago and we did the pass!  We went to Austria, Germany, France, England and Scotland.  It was amazingly easy!!!  My only suggestion is, if you are travel overnight, to get an upgrade for a sleeper.  Trying to sleep in one of those regular seats is just not comfortable!!

Can you elaborate @hardlyhannah?  This is a plan of ours in the near future and "freaky" may not be what I want to experience.
    S'mores. Just S'mores please.

lol it was the mentality of it. I didn't like being under water in a tube with no escape. It's just dark for a while (there are lights in the train). It was a little claustrophobic I guess. But once that part was over it was beautiful driving through the French country side!

How long is a while? (I honestly don't know and am  not good at geography) 10 minutes? 1 hour?

  • @SewInLoveWithDMB - I just looked it up and it looks like you are underground for 23.5 miles - and on the Eurostar train for about 20 minutes...I'm not sure if we are going to do the train from England to France...or a ferry from Ireland to France.

  • I was going to say about 30 minutes so @schellzinator's research is probably spot on!

  • I used it about a 2 years ago and LOVED it.  We made a big circle and visited many places.  Bonus if you are 25 or younger you can get a youth/student pass which is cheaper.
