Photo list or not

Has anyone not submitted a list of photos to your photographer and had a good outcome?

Re: Photo list or not

  • We didn't and it was a mistake.
  • We didn't and I wish we had.  I have no major regrets....we still got most of the photos we wanted....but there are a couple photos I just forgot about.
  • Our photographer requires that we provide one. I think it's a good idea.

I AM a photographer and I appreciate a basic list of family who you want photos of. However at my last wedding I received a four page list of very specific shots the bride wanted. I worked hard to accomplish the list, but it definitely stifles the creativity you're paying for.

  • Thank you for the wonderful advice, everyone. :-)
  • If you are hiring a professional, they should know what they are doing with MOST of the day. However, if you have details of your day that might not stand out to them (family heirloom, something you made...etc) you should give them a list of those things. If you are hiring a professional they should know to photograph the kiss, flowers, rings...if you are hiring a professional and feel like you NEED to give them a list you probably shouldn't hire that photographer. Photography is an art and artists should be given the freedom to create it. If you provide a long list of items to photograph then it will hinder their creativity and void all of the money you have invested toward that creativity and vision. If you are just looking for blah photos...give a list and see what you get. Photography is def the most important thing to me and I have faith in my photo team. I am giving them a list of things that might not be obvious to them and a family shot list since they do not know my family personally.
