SO brag-fest

BF has been so wonderful lately. I don't know if he is just being extra-loving or if he remembers what it was like to have no free time while in school, but he has been doing EVERYTHING. Fixing the vacuum, and then using said vacuum and other assorted products to clean my house. Building me a new closet system that *isn't* falling out of the wall. Making sure I have semi-decent food in the house, and/or taking me out to dinner. Being extremely patient with me when I am stressed out and get a little short. Planning our vacation in August so I have a little something to look forward to as motivation. And every time I say, "I need to remember to buy [whatever]," he shows up with it the next time I see him (I have stopped saying that as much, lol.)

I have always been fairly independent and just take care of my stuff myself. Our relationship is very equitable in who pays for what, the amount of effort we each put into things, etc., but lately he has totally stepped up and taken care of everything I need and a good chunk of what I want. I feel guilty about it at times, because he is doing a LOT and spending more on me and our relationship than when I was working full-time. When I said that to him, he just told me, "You're in school. You doing well in school is important for our future, and if me buying you dinner or cleaning your bathroom will help you with that, I am happy to do it."

In short, I definitely got a winner. :) So, to turn this into a thread, share something helpful or sweet your SO has done lately!

  • @Amapola14- Love it! He sounds like a keeper!

FI is always catching me by surprise mainly b/c I've never been with a man who shows as much care and love as he does. Lately, I've been pretty stressed with some things and he has gone above and beyond to cheer me up. Yesterday, he took me out for a surprise lunch and brought over wine because he knew I had a hard week so far. He also started moving some of my furniture out of my apartment for me while I was at work and my lease isn't up until a month from now. He is so good to me.
  • @amaola14 you are lucky to have such a great guy

FI has been working so hard and so much since we got into our new home to improve it. He is creating a 500sq ft paver patio in the backyard complete with a fire pit and everything. I am impressed at his home improvement skills and his motivation on it all.

Also last night was a lot of fun ;-) ;-)

  • @Amapola14 - You did find a keeper! He sounds like a sweetheart. How nice to find someone who will support you through all the changes in life.

My guy is a complete romantic at heart even though he wants to believe he is a tough guy. His wedding band was a bit too big, so we took it in to be re-sized. They told us he wouldn't get it back for 2-3 weeks. He keeps mentioning to me that he doesn't like not wearing his ring. It's really bugging him that he can't "show" that he's married - and I find this terribly cute.

  • @ allusive007 that is really sweet that he wants to show off his ring :-)

  • Lots of keepers in this thread!  Love it!  :)

I truly can't believe how much FI has grown up over the past year.  He's always been a hard worker, but he's just gotten so much more responsible since we moved out here.  I'm the first to admit that I babied him for most of our relationship and at times I worried that I was setting him up to fail, but he has proved himself to be more than capable and I am so proud of the man he has become.

  • Love this thread!

H has had to put up with my absence for most weekends for nearly a year while I took care of my dying dad, my grief in loosing my dad a month before the wedding, still planning a wedding and getting married and my job related stress (too much work (60-80 hour weeks), now scary work cuts)...all in the last 6 months or so.  He has the ability to calm me down like no one else and someone make everything ok.

  • How lucky are all of us :)

@peaseblossom55, your home sounds like a freaking castle! I always love hearing the improvement updates, lol, and your FI sounds like he is doing a smashing job of putting everything together :)

    @allusive007, that is incredibly cute!

@livleighton, B sounds awesome and some of your examples remind me of my BF, especially with movies and other performances. He haaaaates them with a passion, but he tries to buck up and go with me every few months or so.

I used to wonder what the heck it was that made some guys incredibly romantic and some just not. BF is definitely not a "romantic" person in the traditional sense of the word (I think the closest he got was picking me some "daisies" that were actually weeds, lol). But it just does not matter. I have someone who does everything he can to make me feel safe, comfortable, and happy, and he has definitely shown that he will always be in my corner over the past five years. So today, I just feel unbelievably lucky.
  • @amapola no we don't live in a castle, that would be pretty cool though.  I joked about installing a moat around the house though at one point.  We tripled our living space it's pretty nice.  The cats love it. Our next step in kitchen remodeling- we're not tearing everything out we're repainting cabinets, walls and adding new backsplash for now.
