Wig for a Wedding?

i have very short hair and i keep my hair short because, although i look amazing with long hair (honestly, better than i do with short), my hair is just too thick to wear long - it becomes incredibly heavy, takes days (literally 3 days in midsummer) to dry, and is generally unmanageable even with product. i also generally have my hair dyed in at least one Manic Panic shade at any given moment, which is great and fun and completely me.

i really want long hair for my wedding though, and i agree with my mom when she says that i should have a natural colour because one day when i look back/share the album with my kids etc, but i know i can't grow it to that length without causing myself a whole heap of headaches, so i'm considering wearing a wig (specifically one of the Duchess wigs from Gothic Lolita Wigs). i do occasionally wear wigs anyway, so it's not something totally uncharacteristic for me - i like being able to change my hair up with out it taking months to grow out/fade.

i want to know if any other brides here would wear/have worn wigs for their big day? would you ever consider it?

Re: Wig for a Wedding?

  • I'm not doing a wig, but I am doing clip-on extensions to make my hair fuller. (I know it's not the same - but - I don't see anything wrong with a wig especially if that's what you want and you're comfortable with it.)

  • I would think a wig would be too hot and itchy for a wedding.

I never considered a wig for my wedding.  How short is your hair now?

if it's a good quality wig, it really shouldn't be. i forgot to say that my wedding will most likely be in July, which is mid-winter here, so hot might actually be a good thing.

@JoanE2012 - it's about an inch in the back and 3, maybe 4, in front. it's usually shorter though, i just haven't had a chance to go to the salon lately, and i'm trying to grow the front out so i can at least have some framing around the face.

@hardlyhannah - i used to love wearing clip-in extensions but since i started dyeing my hair they just slide out :( extensions are awesome if all you're looking for is a little fullness, or a pop of colour (which is what i used to do)

  • It depends on ow short your hair is but I like extensions. If you get them done they look real and you can not tell. Sometimes you can tell when a person is wearing a wig. I would be worried about the look. But if you are used to the wig and like the look go for it!
