Veils -Where to buy for decent price...

I bought my dress at Bijou...needless to say I ended up going over my budget (just by a decent, understandable amount).  I tried on veils there....umm close to $600!  A wedding dress I can deal with slurging, you want to look your best....but a veil that I may most likely only wear for the ceremony, eh, not so much. I can budget and not feel so guilty spending maybe $300 max.

I'm looking for an ivory, embroidered, lace bordered, veil, possibly cathedral lengh (but I know this is more pricey or just one that hits a bit longer than finger tip length).

Any suggestions on where to look? I've looked in Etsy but I'm a little worried about it not matching (doesn't have to be exact but at least in color, some vendors don't have close up pictures) if anyone can ease my fears and knows of someone realiable.

  • I used an etsy vendor, Simply Blue Bridal.  She sent me a sample beforehand, so I could make sure it looked good with my dress.  Here's the link:

I think you can be fine on etsy, just ask whoever you use to send you a swatch of fabric.

  • Thanks! I had asked one vendor if they supplied samples and they had no idea what I was asking.  They were based in china so maybe it isn't a usual practice.  That had gotten me nervous.  I will definitely look into your vendors collection.  :)
  • I was going to say Etsy also. Or, try one of the veil makers in NYC.

  • I just ordered one on Etsy from Ultimate Bridal Veils.  She does send out samples, but doesn't send them until you place an order.  She will then hold your order until you confirm the color that you want.

Valuveil.com.  Mine was $12 & I defy anybody looking at the pictures to say it wasn't a more expensive veil.
  • I actually made mine for really cheap. I bought a silver headband from Claire's for $2, a purple necklace for $10 dollars, and white netting from etsy for $3.00. I then glued the necklace and netting to the headband to make a cute headpiece.

I know you said you wanted a veil, but I figured I'd throw this out there for you or anyone else.

  • Thank you again ladies, all very helpful. :)

Terri, actually I had thougth about making my own but I'm really nervous to screw it up.  I have a lace border on it.  I found one similar to the lacing on my dress on etsy but since it is sold per yard the owner wouldn't provide a sample. :\

What kind of glue did you use on such delicate material?
