To spray or not to spray...that is the question!

So I've never had a spray tan and although I have somewhat of a tan I wanted to have a little more even color. I've heard horror stories(ok not so much horror stories) about the tan melting off in the heat and since we are having an outdoor evening reception in Aug.where it can still potentially be hot we'll into the evening. I'm wondering if I should just skip the spray tan altogether or are the stories of it melting off just untrue?

  • If you want to give the spray tan a try I would do it ASAP so that way if you don't like it, it has time to wear off before your wedding day.  But no matter what you should test it out before just jumping in and getting one done the day before your wedding.

My friend gets spray tans and yes, when she sweats (like behind her knees) the tan does streak and come off.  Remember this is a skin dye so that there is always a chance for the dye to come off on your clothing and even streak.

  • Try it now and try to recreate the circumstances of your wedding. So since you are doing a nighttime reception, plan on doing something else outside at night with your spray tan.
  • Thanks for the info! I think I'm just going to go with the tan I have now! I don't want to risk it coming off on my dress!

Find a place that does it with a spray gun by hand @Jessica41381 It is normally a thousand times better and mine has never streaked!

  • Yeah I wouldn't do this, especially if you've never had a spray tan before. I'm sure you'll look lovely naturally. :)
  • Thanks ladies! While I would like a little more color I'm just going to go au natural! After thinking about it , I would have to find time asap to try it first but with a crazy schedule right now it's not possible. I think a tan is going to be the last thing my fiance and wedding guests are concerned about.

  • I've been hearing about spray tans too. I'm an Irish-American gal, resulting in skin so naturally pale, I literally glow in pictures (I'll have to get one up, I look ghostly). It's been recommended I look at Ivory dresses as opposed to white, or consider a light spray tan. Not enough to be "dark" or "tanned," but just enough to take the Casper look off in photos. Living in Florida, I get some sun on my arms during the summer, but my wedding is scheduled for early March- I'm pretty sure I'll be back to ghostly by that point!
  • I never knew that about the ivory as opposed to white. My great grandma was irish so I know all too well about the ghostly white skin. While my cousin has the red hair and very fair skin I have somewhat of a tan that naturally happens when I'm the sun with a sunscreen/suntan lotion with spf. Without it I burn with it I tan. It took me up until a few years ago to actually believe you can tan with spf lotion on but you can!

  • Just go indoor tanning 2-3 times in the week before your wedding week. Just go for a few minutes. It's a cancer box but a couple sessions for a special occasion isn't the end of the world.

I used to go tanning in the tanning bed and loved it and found it very relaxing but quit when my mom got skin cancer ,after that tanning in a salon wasn't that important to me.

  • I find that spray tan smells like an odd combination of soy sauce and crackers.

I'm VERY fair skinned and got a spray tan for the first time a month ago or so. I was really nervous about it because I've seen a lot of bad orange ones. I made sure to find an airbrush place, the girl sprays you herself and they have great reviews - don't cheap out on it! It was awkward standing there topless in  little thong, but she chatted the whole time which helped. I told her I was nervous so she went on the lighter side of a natural tan. No one would look at me and think I was tan, but I was tanner than normal for me.

I ended up with a line down the side of my leg that I think was from my jeans, but other than that I didn't experience any streaking or peeling and I don't think I noticed it coming off on my clothes - but I also didn't wear any white. I know @Harry87 said to do it 5 days before, but at least when I did it, the tan was basically completely gone by then. I didn't take the best care to moisturize and pat dry though, so that might not have helped.

I was pleased with it. It's scary before you shower (which has to be about 8 hours later) and your skin is soooo dark. But that all washes off the first time you shower.

I'm hesitant to do it for my wedding because I'm not sure if it will come off on the dress or not.
