I'm cranky

I just found out that I won't be able to take any days off work around Christmas. There are 3 of us and 2 of us are supposed to be here at all times. One of the guys took the whole week of Christmas off when normally we split (usually we plan it so he gets the days before, I get the days after, and the other guy gets the days before NYE, this works very well for all 3 of us).

What pisses me off besides obviously having no extra time to spend with my family, is that he didn't even bother to discuss this with me. He just went ahead and took the whole week and totally fucked me over. I wouldn't even have known had I not just asked about the holidays.

So yea, I'm pretty fucking cranky right now. And I just wanted to whine about it.

Anyone else?

That really sucks, swazzle. I got nothing on that magnitude, just my generalized angst that lately is putting teenage girls to shame.

ETA: Oh wait I'm getting there now ... my carpool is obscenely late yet again and I had to call him to wake him up for work this morning. I'm lucky that my boss doesn't care when I work as long as it roughly overlaps general business hours, but I want to get in at a point that resembles on time!!!
  • That really sucks. I work as part of a team.  So sometimes I am limited to the days I can take off too.  We do have a team policy to get it approved with everyone on the team before we can take the day and we still have to submit it to our manager. Is there no policy for team approval?

Next week and the following week, I will be the only one on my team I am dreading it so much.  It makes me stabby just thinking about it.  I already am unhappy here.  So I'll be miserable and stressed  doing it so much work...

  • @KeptInStitches - That really sucks. I hate having to rely on other people.

@Peaseblossom55 - No, it doesn't really work that way here. You just have to give them a heads up and put it down in the vacation book. Nothing needs to be approved. It's pretty lax. I've never had a problem with this until now and I've been here for 6 years. Any luck on the job search?

  • that would really make me mad too, especially if you all had a deal before.  I would consider talking to him and/or management about it.  how does the third person feel?  I would really be steamed inside.  time off with family around the holidays is important to me.

I am not cranky, but I'm a little worried because my little Bella got stung or hit in the nose by a yellow jacket this morning!  I am trying to find someone to go check on her at lunch and give her more Benadryl because I have meetings from 10:30 until the end of the day, on and off.  poor baby girl!

I am also feeling kind of relieved, because my house isn't really decorated very cute.  I am too indecisive and scared to mess up so I don't do anything.  anyway, I sent my friend a bunch of my inspiration pictures and she is picking out paint colors and finding all sorts of cute stuff for me to look at!!  she loves decorating and just volunteered to do it for me, so I am so relieved about that.
  • @CocoBellaF - Well, I'm assuming the 3rd person doesn't care much because he'll still be able to take the days before NYE like usual. I don't really feel comfortable going to my boss to complain about it. It's not actually the end of the world, I'm just bummed that I'll have to do all of that travelling on Christmas Day and won't have any time other than that day to see my family. I just took the day after Thanksgiving which I don't usually take so that'll partially make up for it, I guess.

Aw poor Bella! That's great about your friend helping with your house! I suck at decorating and would love for someone to help me out.

  • @swazzle I'm sorry it sucks not to have a few extra days around the holidays.  I'm really trying to stay within my company. I really like the company, but nothing has really popped up yet worthy of me applying for.  I did for one or two other jobs but nothing came out of it. I hoping anyways things will pick up in the fall.

    @swazzle - that guys is a cock.

I'm cranky because I've had a cold for 10 days. I'm motherfucking sick of it (no pun intended) and just want to be back to normal. I also have a hurt shoulder (from overuse/p90x) and a broken toe (from being stupid while river tubing this weekend). I'm a hot mess.

  • @cschiano - OUCH! A broken toe? That really sucks and I imagine there's nothing you can really do for it other than take some Advil. I'm sorry you're sick :(

@swazzle - thanks. I'm not 100% sure it is broken b/c I haven't gotten an x-ray. But it is really black and blue and super swollen. Luckily it is my 4th toe and I don't put a lot of weight on it ever. But still. ugh.
  • Yep, @cschiano, you've earned cranky. Booze later, perhaps? Sorry to hear you're hurting so much and are sick.
  • @LivLeighton - It's definitely not because of that. This particular CW got married last summer and was off for the same amount of time I took for my wedding and HM. The other CW was in Europe for the same amount of time the summer before that for his brother's wedding and vacation. We get 5 weeks and I still have plenty of days that I can take.

If I were you, I would have stayed home today! I hope you hear back from the place you interviewed with ASAP.

  • @livleighton I hope you hear back with a job offer soon.

I get about 3 weeks or so of vacation I think it works out to about that.  It sucks I wish it were longer, especially next year when going on a honeymoon.  FI has been busy with hockey and house stuff this week, so there are wedding things we need to talk about that have kind of gone ignored the past two weeks or so. Next weekend I have a bachelorette party to go to the restaurant we're eating at has either meat or dairy in every dish.  I get incredibly anxious when I'm going to out to eat and can't find anything I can eat. Hopefully they will be able to make me something..

  • I just bought this vintage Boston postcard (LINK scroll all the way down).  we're going to blow it up and put it on the wall, like this inspiration picture (LINK and LINK - it's in the corner by the bed, at a hotel we stayed at in Albuquerque last year).  what do y'all think?  I wanted to get one of the hotel we stayed at in Boston on our HM, but this one was so pretty and I couldn't find one of the hotel... it used to be a jail, so maybe that explains it?
  • might just be selfish...  or maybe he has important family coming in town, and just didn't think to mention it?
  • I'm cranky because I got all the way to work before I realized I left my laptop at home. So I had to drive aaalll the way back home to get it. It's not that far, but I hit every.single.light. on the way in the first time, and people were driving like idiots, so it was almost 25 minutes, when on a good day it takes about 15.

I'm also cranky because I got an email at work today about risk management, and then a follow up email that said "We will be tapping you for editing & formatting once we are ready." I have no idea what this means, and when I asked, she said "Don't know yet." Um, thanks?

  • That's really shitty and selfish.  I'm sorry he did that to you.  There may not be anything you can really do about it at this point, but I would definitely make it a point to let him know that he pulled a dick move and that you're pissed.  Otherwise you may run the risk of him thinking he can get away with the same nonsense next Christmas.

I'm pretty cranky this morning myself.  At my job I'm the receptionist, but I also act as a marketing assistant even though that's not my actual job title (it's a start-up so it's like that here).  The plan is that as the company grows I'll just transition right into a regular marketing role.  This week they started an intern that's going to spend some time at the reception desk each day while I go sit in one of the marketing cubicles so that I have some time to focus on my marketing projects without being interrupted.  At first I was happy about it, but the more I think about it the more I get annoyed that now I have to move all my shit to a different desk mid-day, my title still hasn't changed, and there's no raise even though I've already been told there will be more work.  Ugh.

  • I'm cranky because the guy I have been working with in accounts receivable is fucking useless. He fucks shit up left and right and doesn't ever get reprimanded for it. I have to constantly go behind him and fix shit and handle customer complaints and its getting old. Yesterday he should've processed a payment for almost four grand and didn't. Uuugh I could go on for hours about my irritation with this douchetard.

I'm also cranky becausey BC, while it is better than the last is still not resolving the issues. I'm getting so freaking sick of it!!!
  • I'm cranky b/c my baby was up at 4:30 this morning and was whiny all morning. He also got in the shower with me and got soaking wet. That actually was pretty cute. It's pretty hard to stay annoyed with him for very long. :)

Sorry about your CW, @swazzle. Could you try to see if he'd be open to some sort of compromise? "Hey, I noticed you put in for vacation for X days, but that will make it very hard for me to spend time with my family. Can we work something out?"

  • @desertsun - I actually started the conversation with "Hey, I know it's early but have you thought about Christmas plans yet? As you know, I have to travel 3 hours to see my family and I know you host Christmas Eve so will the same plan as last year work again this year?" And his response was "Just checked my calendar and I'm out the 23rd-27th." And that was it.

Awwww how late does he usually sleep?

  • @swazzle those are the dates my coworkers take off and one coworker takes off time from 12/23 to 1/2. They know my situation too, their response "well when Christmas is on the weekend, you can see your parents then"

At least next year I'll be taking two weeks off, so they can suck it hard.

@desertsun the shower story is funny! My friend's kids love to go in the shower with her, she now has to lock the door and ended up putting one of those chain locks since her daughter figured out how to unlock the bathroom door. She says it's the only time she gets alone (bathroom time) so she thinks the lock is worth every penny!

  • @desertsun the shower story is so cute!

I'm a bit cranky this morning.  I'm learning I can't really talk to my mom about wedding planning too much.

    Anniversary

  • @swazzle, ugh. :( I think though that if it's really important to you, it doesn't hurt to push back a little. "I know your family is really important, and you kinda got first dibs. But it really puts me in the position of getting very little time with my family. Could we work something out? I'd really love to be able to take at least the 26th off, or perhaps the 27th and 30th? Can I bribe you with some home-baked goodies or a lunch out on me? I'd really appreciate if you could help me out a little." The worst that happens is he says no, right?

Little man used to sleep until about 7 am. But in the past month, he's been up between 4 and 5 am most days. That is just too fucking early for me. It makes me sluggish all day. I deal much better when it's 6 am or later. We have been trying all kinds of things to help him sleep later/better, but so far, not a lot of luck. :(

@buddysmom80, yeah, we're going to have to figure out some way to secure the shower door. And soon enough, the bathroom door. It's fine to have him with me when I'm going to the bathroom right now, but as he gets older, it will just be weird.

@peaseblossom55, it was super cute at the time. But he has developed an obsession over the last few days. Every time he's in the bedroom now, he makes a beeline for the shower and wants to play in there. Fine if it's dry, but annoying to have to keep changing him into dry clothes when it's damp in there! Ugh. Bless his heart. He's adorable but he tries my patience sometimes for sure!

  • I'm effing cranky this morning. I got up early to work on BF's birthday present (can't say much, he knows I'm on here), and I learned that Sharpie paint pens will randomly blob ink all over surfaces you can't get it off of. Also, on specific surfaces, that shit's instantaneous-drying, not quick-drying. I'm having to start all over ... thankfully I have almost a month, but I'm taking this crafting snafu personally.
