Things remembered

We got our toasting flutes today!! We went last Sunday to pick some out, and while I love them and they look fantastic I can't get over how much they charge for engraving. I imagined around $20 or so for the engraving but for just our name and date it was $40. So our $85 flutes ended up being $125 plus tax. They are worth the price because hey are beautiful and we will have them forever I was just caught off guard. Has anyone ever had engraving of just a name and date be so expensive? I think next time i need something engraved ill shop around etsy.

Re: Things remembered

  • Yeah, I was a little shocked by their engraving prices, too.  We got engraved picture frames for our parents, and I think it was like $3 per word.  So to write:

    Libby and Mr. Libby
    August 18, 2012

It was $18 to engrave each frame because each part of the date counted as a separate word.  They turned out really nice, and the frame itself was on a super sale for like $12, so it wasn't too expensive overall, but damn, that engraving was pricey!
  • That was the reason we opted not to get any. The engraving costs were ridiculous for something to drink out of once.

  • Yeah, Things Remembered really gets you on the engraving. One of the reasons I try not to shop there anymore.
  • If my sister hadn't bought us our toasting flutes we just wouldn't have had any.  Heck we didn't even drink out of them at our wedding.  We each already had a drink when we sat down and since no one did any kind of toast neither H or myself really thought about drinking out of them.

  • I was ok without having the but my fiancé really wanted them so we got them. I haven't ever shopped there before and probably won't again if I want/need something engraved but I would buy from them again and have it engraved somewhere else.

  • I'm super cheap and hate champagne, so for our toast... we bought flutes, but ordered them from walmart.com. I think they were $20 and I love them they say Mr. & Mrs. with our last names and the date...

  • I've had other things engraved by Things Remembered. It's very expensive.

My mother was planning to buy a pair of Waterford toasting flutes (about $130) for my daughter and SILs wedding, but someone beat her to it.  She received a pair of etched champagne flutes as a shower gift, so she used those.

  • Thanks for the link!  Mom keeps insisting that we need special champagne flutes, and these should do nicely.  My aunt wants to get them for us.  :)

  • I ordered mine from exclusivelyweddings.com   the engraving cost $8.00.  I got flutes and cake server for about $90.00
  • My aunt recently started her own engraving business after leaving her corporate job doing the same thing. So we got a lot of wedding stuff engraved for free. Otherwise we would have done without.

  • Here it's $0.90 per letter to get things engraved. When we bought Gibbs his dog tag for his collar, with his name and our phone number it was $13.

  • @addiel73 We dug our parents' flutes out for their 25th anniversary party - so they used them all of twice, ha. But I agree, I'm not sure that we'll do them either.

  •  I wanted them b/c I liked the idea of using them on anniversaries, but then it just seemed unnecessary since we usually go out for dinner if we're celebrating something.

  • We have been married for... 9 months. And we've used our flutes a few times since then, and we have used our cake server at least 4-5 times for various occasions.  I am not upset that we spent the money on them.

  • I'm with you @QueerFemme, we will probably use ours on special occasions throughout the year!

  • Last Christmas, Mom wanted to get something personal for then BF/ now FI (FI the traditionalist had already asked Dad for my hand). I told her he'd been wanting to get a gold tie bar with his initials, and that I was looking at one on Things Remembered's website. She had me put it on the am ex account she and I share, so it could be from her. I think the three letters was 5 bucks for their standard font, but I think that's also because it was one of those "last two weeks, must haves sales" type deals.
