Printing Chalkboard Invites at Staples

I have been trying to find someone who has printed their chalkboard style invites at Staples/Vistaprint/Mpix. I would like to see a sample of what they turned out like. Also, is it worth it to upgrade to the 100 lb. card stock or will 80 lb. be acceptable? We are having a very casual backyard ceremony and reception and it's far from satisfying all wedding etiquette guidelines (hah!). Thanks in advance!

Re: Printing Chalkboard Invites at Staples

  • I can't help you (I'm actually thinking about trying the same thing in a few months - chalkboard and all), but I'd personally at least go with at least the 100lb weight. I'll probably just order like 10 or so from VP to see if they turn out well enough and then finish the order if I like them.

  • I understand your question and why you're asking it. You're probably trying to get quotes for cake, catering and etc.

My fiance are doing this and it's hard. My best advice is to get catering/venue prices then figure out how many people you can invite. Don't invite more thinking people aren't really going to be able to come. Wedding are big deals and a lot of people will surprise you in making sure they don't miss it.

Also, we sent our STD 8 months out and it's helped get an idea of people we weren't quite sure about, giving us a definite yes. I've had 6 family members already book their hotel room!

Just a heads-up- someone on here last week got chalkboard style invites and RSVP cards to match. She then realized that people would need silver sharpies to be able to write on them, and needed to add white labels so people could indicate their selections. Make sure you don't get stuck in the same boat and check for legibility, etc. before they're bulk printed.
Agreed. A lot of the printable designers on Etsy and elsewhere have figured this out; they'll put in blanks for the guest to write in their names and check yes or no. Make sure you have one of those designs.
