Are pocket folds necessary?

I'm in the process of selecting my invitations. I don't want to use a printer and instead am checking out some of the great sites suggested on the knot. The invitation I really love doesn't come with a pocket fold and is slightly larger than a regular invite (5 1/2 x 7 1/4).

I have a directional card and will of course include a response card/envelope. Is a pocket fold necessary? If I don't use one, How do I place everything in the envelope? Does everything go into the inner envelope? How do I separate them?

Thanks for any help!

Re: Are pocket folds necessary?

  • Nope, pocket invitations can be nice, but are completely unnecessary.  We skipped them to save money.

As far as putting stuff in the envelope, you would put the pieces largest to smallest (all in the inner envelope).  Place the response card under the flap of the envelope, but don't actually put it inside. So, it will probably go (from bottom to top): invitation, direction card, and response card with envelope.
  • Thank you so much!

    That cleared up my confusion.
