Event Home Wedding Reception Layout

Hi everyone!

Less than 3 months out & starting to plan out all the little details :)  For those of you who had your receptions at a beach house, where did you set up the food, DJ, area for dancing, bar, etc?  Did you put food inside?  Did you have seating for guests both inside and outside?

I'd love to hear what worked best for you & if you had to do it over again, what (if anything!) you would do differently.  Any advice would be appreciated!  Thanks!

Re: Event Home Wedding Reception Layout

  • It really depends on what the layout of the hours looks like and the weather. WE had awesome weather in may so we had everything outside. If it is going to be hot you may want to think about setting some seating inside where it is cool. We had our reception on the back lawn of our rental home. We set up tables and the buffet in the lawn area. We set up the drinks and things on the outdoor bar area. The DJ and cake were against the house so that they were under the deck from the second floor. We did our special dances up in the gazebo that was at the top of the dune leading to the beach. This made for great pictures and I highly reccommend if you have this at your house. You can send me a PM if you want to see pictures.
  • Where did you host your wedding?
  • We had our reception at the rental home absolute elegance in whalehead beach. It rents from Carolina designs.
  • Thanks! It is always great to hear from fellow brides. How many did you host, and did you do most of the planning from afar?
  • We only had 24 guests and almost everyone stayed at the house with us for the night before the wedding and the night of the wedding. I did plan everything from afar.  We had our wedding May of 2013, so my Hubby and I made one trip down for the wedding expo in Jan 2012. Then made another trip down in May 2012 to meet one on one with the vendors, make decisions and get contracts. Going to the wedding expo is very overwhelming but by far the best thing I could have done. Every vendor we booked was someone we met at the expo.
