Anyone been to/had a wedding at Squire's castle?

Hi! Has anyone been to or had a wedding ceremony at Squire's castle? I have been to the location twice and I love it! I was wondering if anyone could tell me about their experience there and what to expect/avoid, and how many people they had? Thanks!

Re: Anyone been to/had a wedding at Squire's castle?

  • YEARS ago, at least 7 or so... I went to my ex's boss's wedding there. I don't remember much unfortunately but it was very small and super informal. There were less than 20 guests and there were other people visiting/sight-seeing in the area. Hopefully someone more helpful comes around haha.
  • A friend of mine got married there, they only had about 12 people there. I don't think it's available for rental. I think you can reserve the shelter area off the parking lot though, so you take your chances on the amount of people that are there on any given day. I don't think they allow for chairs & stuff to be set up because I've never seen it done before.
  • A coworker got married there.  I hated that only the "important" people had seating.  It's pretty but not ideal if you can't provide seating...
  • In Response to Anyone been to/had a wedding at Squire's castle?:

A good friend of mine got married there almost 2 years ago(before we met), so I wasn't there but I saw all the pictures.  She said just call Lake Metroparks and ask to reserve the castle on your scheduled date and time.  You can have it for a 2 hour time slot and they will send you a permit, but it is still open to the public.  Everyone was pretty respectful and watched from afar.  She did rent chairs for about 50 guests.  Anymore than 35-50 guests and the park may have issues with parking.

She did have a cake/punch mini reception in the pavillion after, no reservation, just first come first serve.
hope this helps!  This location makes beautiful beautiful pics!  Oh and keep in mind...it's a park, so NO alcohol
  • Thanks for all the info everyone!
  • I am a wedding officiant and my husband is a wedding photographer.  We both love this venue!  Many different spots to select to have a small ceremony and many beautiful places to take photos.  There is no charge to use Squires Castle which makes it a great deal.  As states above, one you get a permit from the Metorparks, you are give a two hour time slot.
  • I'm actually working at a wedding there this coming weekend. They were able to reserve it for a 3 hour time span (not sure of the costs). Things to keep in mind, Bathrooms are a good walk and they are out houses. If you want chairs set up, you will have to bring them in yourself & haul them up a small hill (luckily the path is paved so if you have a cart it can make it go quicker). Depending on the day & time the amount of noise from other people coming to the park may be more or less.

I will try to come back after this coming weekend to give an update on how many chairs we were able to set up and tips for set up.

  • Report back from weekend wedding. The venue was beautiful, the bride was beautiful. She had Giant Eagle from Legacy Village delivery coffe, fruit trays, vegetable trays, juice boxes & flowers & a few other things for a little mini reception afterwards in one of the side rooms since the ceremony was at 10:30 AM (due to the availability of the castle) and the reception wasn't until 1:00 PM. This helped to fill in the time between events. Someone brought a battery operated ipod docking station to provide music while the guests arrived. Parking was plenty

Here are things you have to take into consideration. Bathrooms are near the entrance of the park which means a hike. and are out houses. If you want chairs you will have to bring them yourself and bring them up to the castle yourself (no vehs allowed up to castle so you will have to carry them up). The wedding I worked at they just brought chairs for the parents and grandparents, everyone else stood. Luckily they had a short ceremony. Part of the castle is missing it's roof, of course it's the section in the larger room. So if it rains, you need to have a backup window as rain will come from above and if it's blowing, through the windows. Also there is no electric at all up there so we couldn't put up fans to help provide any type of a breeze in the heat. You do have a decent walk up a hill to the castle so if you have anyone that has issues walking distances will have a hard time getting up there since you can't take a vehicle up the hill.

How do I get ahold of you? I am having a small wedding, was thinking about justice of the peace, but I do want photos, and a super small wedding. Outdoor vows in late Nov! I want to get married at squires castle. Can you send me some information please?
    Thanks!
