Bachelorette party... in Philly or Atlantic City?

My MOH just asked me if I would want to have the bachelorette party in Philly or AC. Philly is closer but I have heard that AC is a blast. I have never been to AC so I don't even know where I would want to go... none of the guests are gamblers or anything. I don't want the guests to spend an arm and a leg on covers to get into bars or clubs. We are younger and will definitely be drinking and will need to eat. I just want it to be a fun time, nothing too crazy. If you have been to a bachelorette party in either place I'd be interested to know what you did and where you went. Any ideas or advice is welcomed!

  • We are going to AC for our honeymoon... we are staying at Bally's.

Wow, it's nice that she asked you...but I would think it would be best if you just went along with whatever she chooses. You'll have a great time either way. As the bride usually pays for very little during her bachelorette party, it's probably best that you stay neutral.

"MOH, wow, those are both great options. I am open to either, or staying close to home."

  • itzMS, I didn't expect her to ask... but she can't decide and so she wanted to know if I had an opinion. I tried to go with the "it's up to you!" approach since either place would be great and she insisted I made a choice, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Of course I would be happy with either. My bridesmaids are all over the country and I honestly didn't expect to have a bachelorette party. Since she needs an answer I asked for help on ideas in both cities..

In the case of the bolded, pick Philly. Much easier to get flights to. I speak from experience, as DH & I just tried to get flights to Atlantic City and it was nearly impossible. We live in a fairly major city with a large airport, too.

I spent 15 years living in Philly and now I live in South NJ.  There are pros and cons to both AC and Philly.  It really depends on what you are looking to do with your friends.

If you've never been to AC - I say check out LivingSocial or Groupon and see what kind of deals there are.  You might be able to find cheap stays at the casinos and there are tons of great restaurants, etc. to eat at in AC.

Heck...there's really only about 1.5 hours between Philly and AC - you could probably do BOTH in a weekend if you really want to!

  • I can't speak for Philly (I've only been there for a concert), but I can say that AC is tons of fun.  There is great nightlife (clubs, bars, comedy clubs), some awesome restaurants and gambling.  There's also a beach and boardwalk, which are not the greatest in NJ, but still fun.

Hope you have an amazing time no matter where you end up!

  • I lived in Philly while I was in college and the food is literally the best I've ever had (beats any other major city I've been to) and it's great for going out in the 'gayborhood' (yes, it's a real place complete with rainbow street signs) where you won't get bothered by many men.
  • I grew up by AC and am heading there for my own bachelorette. There is a lot of nightlife fun (restaurants, bars, nightclubs) and depending on when you are going you can enjoy outdoor venues too (beach bar, pools, day spa). There are a lot of great casinos, but I'm partial to Borgata and Tropicana. You can also take jitneys (shuttle buses cheaper than a cab) to each of the casinos if you're up for a little adventure. Have fun either way!
  • I actually just got back from my bachelorette in AC and loved it. We stayed at Revel. Amazing food their/everywhere.

First night we went to the Burlesque club, second day was Beach Club at Revel, and we went to HQ at night. It was an AMAZING TIME. Highly recommend it.
  • @bwils35- Sounds like we had a pretty similar weekend, I was in AC on Saturday for my bachelorette party too! We went to the beach right in front of Revel during the day (we could hear the music from HQ, it was awesome and free!) and apparently it's okay to drink on the beach there so that was fun. We went to an Italian restaurant in Revel for dinner and then to Royal Jelly. OP, I highly recommend Revel if you do AC, it's beautiful and the burlesque club was fantastic!
