I'm trying to get the feel here newly engaged and excited and just ready to start planning but due to us wanting to have either a big wedding or a destination wedding we have decided to take 2 yrs to plan to make sure we have the wedding we want so I'm hoping I'm not jumping the gun by signing on to early. lol!

Thank u ladies in advanced and looking forward to getting to know u ladies better

    SoontobMrsRaines WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME.... If no one tells you THIS IS THE BEST BOARD ON TK... These women are not one resourceful but very helpful and welcoming, although you are setting a wedding for 2 yrs away time will fly and you will be there before you realize it!!  Anyway give us more info on you and your future hubby, colors of the wedding, location and how did he propose????

    Welcome suga!  I got engaged New Yrs Eve of 2011!  So I am a fan of long engagements.  It gives you time to save up too!

    Thank u @misstira I think I will feel more comfortable here lol! no offense to anyone else...Yes I am definitely counting on time to fly.  We actually decided to do things a bit different we have set up a wedding savings funds through a investment company to see how much money we will have saved in a yr. that way we won't have to live check to check or have to worry about coming up with a deposit we can just put the money down out of that account with no worries...

    We have learned that through previous experiences since this will b the 2nd time around for both of us...

    We just got engaged the 4th of July at his family's 4th of July party and it completely took me by surprise we have never even talked about marriage b4... so I was in complete shock but here is the proposal:  He was on the grill and had ask me to take the last pan of meat in the kitchen and wanted me to fix him a drink so while I'm in the kitchen I hear the DJ playing "put a ring on it" by Beyoncé so of course I'm dancing and singing along, his cousin was like girl u need to come out here and look at these kids doing the dance so I grab a rib and his drink and started singing along to the song his cousin in front she open the door and low and behold he was on one knee saying I'm putting a ring on it will u marry me. the cup fell but not the rib lol! (I am a fatty) and started balling I could not believe it I just cried and said "yes". lmao! sorry jus thinking about it.

    We haven't started with the colors yet but I'm thinking Navy blue and Fuchsia...we really want destination but that depends on the money we have saved by next July if the goal is not met we will push the date back one more yr. We really don't want to settle plus we have been knowing each other forever what's another yr. lol! ....

    Me and my FI have been in each others lives since were kids but we never dated as we got older I started dating his best friend he was into older women anyway lol! but when Sam passed away (which was his best friend)  we somehow became best friends and remained friends thru high school, our military careers and our previous marriages we actually moved back home around the same time in 2008 but didn't get together until last October he said he felt it was faith that has brought us together and thought it was meant to be since we have so much history and know so much about each other and I couldn't be happier and I will truly be marrying my best friend...

    sorry so long but I really don't mind sharing

    We are here to guide you along the way and lift each other up in this process.  Feel free to jump right in!  By the way, Navy and Fuschia are awesome colors.  Fuschia is one of my colors!  Great choice!

I couldn't drop the rib cuz I do not like to waste food that's my story and I'm sticking to it lol! plus that man is blessed with a gift, he can cook his butt off ummmmm ummmmm lol! .... I always said Pink is like a diamond they both r a girls best friend and I'm liking Navy blue since it will be representing our time in the military we were both Navy and Now he works at the VA and I'm retired and when I was looking through color patterns they looked awesome together..... I am really looking forward to diving right in with u ladies

    @ Missus11116 What is ur other color? I see u also had a long engagement also, when did u really start planning? I see u guys decided to save 1st too how did that work out? if u don't mind sharing..my last wedding was in a travel agency b4 I left to go on deployment and I have seen a lot of my friends struggling to plan a wedding soon after the engagement and either struggled to pay bills, had to push the date back or just had to settle and we don't want that...so do u mind sharing

    @soontobMrsRaines. My colors are Eggplant, Charcoal and Fuschia. I started from the beginning. The first thing I did was research costs so I knew average figures of how much wedding stuff cost, like venues, photogs, video, gowns, the whole nine. After that, we came up with a budget of how much we were realistically willing to pay for those things. Everyone on here will tell you though, costs go from one end of the spectrum to the other so I knew wanted to stay middle range. Next, we figured how much can we put back each pay check. I put it into a separate account so I wouldn't confuse it with shopp...er umm... important money. Tax refunds helped tremendously! I've had 2 since being engaged and he's had 2. Most of those went toward bigger deposits such as the venue and my dress. In the beginning stages, I just mostly researched and reached out to vendors for quotes. Trust me, if you start on small stuff early, it helps in the end but pace yourself cause this wedding planning ish gets old and it stops being fun after awhile. I would do a little and stop for weeks then pick up for 2 mos then stop for 2. I write every thought or vision down in my notebook ( yeah, you'll need one). Like you, I am a military veteran and so is @nursing2u so that organization is put to use! I know this was long but I hope it helps. Let me know if you need anything girl!

    Thanks MissusD1116 And Mrs.Nursing2u........I love the advice u gave and no need to apologize I need all the advice that all u ladies have to give lol! and I love that color pattern madam LOL!  by me being retired from the military and getting ready to go back to school I plan on putting that school money the give u I plan on putting that money straight  in our investment account he already has so when I start in the fall its going automatically so I don't have to worry about it along with a lil extra and our income tax since this will be my last one this yr. I like that Idea of researching and taking 2 months to do things and taking 2 months off I am definitely going to do that I feel like next yr is going to be here b4 I know it and I love to plan ahead...

    Yes!  Time flies!!!  When I first came on here, my ticker was like over 600 days to go!  I was too thru! LOL!  Now, I am flirting with DD (double digits)!
