NER- vent!

So I just called to check on the status of my dress since I ordered it 7.5 months ago. The lady who answered was incredibly rude, would not let me speak to my sales associate (also the owner). After several min of her being rude to me I let her know I would be informing the owner of how she treated me. She replied with "oohh I'm really scared of you" and hung up on me. Grrr. I then looked them up online and they are closing!!!! No one has called me or anything! They were supposed to store my dress until the wedding as well as do the steam and major alterations. Ugh! So upset. Thanks for the spot to vent...

Re: NER- vent!

  • Yeah. I would be FREAKING out right now if I were you. Is there any way you can physically go to the store and talk to them? Be sure it's going to be ready and take it elsewhere to be steamed and altered?

  • As soon as I saw it was closing i would of marched my ass to the store(if still open) and get my dress. I wouldn't want to risk them closing and the dress is M.I.A.

  • Well I just got back from the store. Same lady was there. My dress is not in yet an they were not able to show me proof it was ordered. Chick got about two inches from my face and screamed at me. It was lots of fun. Filed a report with the police... Yay.. Just wanted to know the status of my dress! Ugh! Oh! The owner thought it would be better to find out they were closing once ppl had their dresses instead of informing everyone before hand... It's far from awesome finding out online especially since the sales person was awful to begin with...
  • This is why I carry pepper spray.

I am curious, was the police report for the money for the dress?

It was recommended to report it to ensure I either get a dress or money before they fall off the face of the earth. So yeah about dress not crazy salesperson . Lol
  • Wow - that really sucks!  how much time do you have to find a new dress?  I think I would start looking if I was in your place...

  • I would definitely start looking for a new dress, or find another store in town who can order the same one for you. Once you do that, cancel your order with the old store.  No wonder that store is closing.
  • Yeah, what was the police report for? Sounds like they haven't done anything illegal (yet).  The Better Business Bureau might be more helpful than the police (FYI, screaming at someone isn't nice, but it's not illegal).
  • Honestly, I would probably reach out to the designer and see if there is an order pending for you.  Depending on which designer it is, your dress should likely be here already.
  • I thought you were only able to file a police report if a crime was committed? If we have people going and filing away any time a salesperson is rude to them, imagine how backed up the system will be.

A police report won't help you at this time, but talking to a lawyer will if you get no information about your dress. Has your card been charged for the purchase already? If so, then you need to get in contact with the store, figure out what is being done to fix the problem, and stay on top of it.

  • Recommended by my credit card company since the dress is paid for. Didn't file against her, filled for money claim purposes. See above

I agree that you should start looking for another dress.

I understand the police report since you did it because of the money NOT the sales person. I have a background in Criminal Justice and whether or not someone recommended the report it was a good idea. Why? Because if something does happen and OP has to go to court for the dress or whatever because the store already charged her and the dress does not come then the police report will serve a viable evidence in court.

Also OP, it would not be a bad idea to document when you called the store (day and time) and the name of the sales person and maybe a couple bullet points about how they treated you in general. I have seen enough court cases to know that things like that and documented reports with the police are very helpful.

I would say the person with the credit card company was new and just gave an answer off the top of their head instead of figuring out what the best course of action (on the card company's side would be).

Just my thoughts on the situation. I am not taking sides. You can take or leave my advice :)

Thank you! I thought it made sense too. I have stuff documented on and via text to my FI. I'm calling the designer today to see if the order has been placed
