Too many dresses -- need input! (+ pics!)

Hi Knotties!

I'm a bride who's totally organized except for one little detail -- I haven't bought "the dress" yet!  My wedding's in December, so I must really enjoy the looks I get from already-stressing-out-about-your-six-month-deadline-and-you-haven't-bought-a-dress-yet shop owners/dress stylists/et al.  Anyway, I've tried on three really gorgeous dresses and would love to hear some of your input!  I don't have pics of myself, but I can tell you that I'm 5'7, 150 lbs, B cup, big butt (love it!), curvy, hourglass/pear figure.

1. Pronovias Urdiel - I had a great experience at the shop where I tried this on. I love the shrug that accompanies the dress, and I love the way it hugs the body.  Question: Does it look like what FI describes as "every dress I've seen on FB lately," or is it unique?  Fabric quality is high, but this is the most expensive of the three.

2. Mori Lee Style 1862 - Gorgeous, all lace dress, but it was hard to get a proper feel for it because the sample size was too small! I love the sweetheart neckline.  Also has a keyhole shrug (but I'd have to get rid of that flower on the shoulder!).  Question: Does it look "unique"/"different"?  Sorry that's vague, and of course the most important thing is that it matches my personality!

3. Maggie Sottero Bronwyn - Gorgeous gown, and I love how incredibly lightweight and flowy it is -- super comfy!  Concerns: There's a gold-colored detached satin slip beneath the lace -- I don't really like satin and worry how the satin and the color will turn out in photos.  Anyone have experience with this?  I was also hesitant to wear a gown where the slip and the lace aren't attached -- thoughts on this?  Final concern is, since the sample was a little big and they didn't have clips, that it might be a little tight around a tummy that is a little bouncy (though it's such a cute tummy!).  Thoughts on this (non)issue?

That's it for now, Knotties!  Thanks for your input! :)

And I don't know if others have had this experience, but I think I've got a bias toward the dresses which came from boutiques I really loved.  Likewise, if I really didn't like a pushy salesperson, I sort of mentally discarded the dresses I tried on.

I absolutely love the second one. I think it is so romantic and pretty. The third dress is the one I've been seeing everywhere lately, not the first one. Something about the high lace line on the first dress I don't like. It seems not very bridal or something. I can't put my finger on it. It's almost too old school and reminiscent of dresses from the 70s and 80s that have the high neck lines.

  • I like the first and third the best.
  • First and third for me too.

My dress has detached ivory lace over a champagney colored satin (it's "cafe" technically I think) - I've been playing around with it and haven't noticed any issues. The lace over the satin kind of dulls that satiny sheen (I didn't want satin either, but I'm fine with the look of my dress).

  • I have a similar shape and I really like the first one. The second one could be really difficult to sit in, especially for someone with curves, because it'll need a lot of extra space in the bottom to accommodate those rocking curves, and with a mermaid skirt, as opposed to a modified/skinny a-line, it may change the shape to something you don't want. I tried on that dress, and it was immediately a no for that reason.

  • I think they're all beautiful. I do agree with Harry87 that the first one is more "unique" then the other two. You can make any of those your own though with accessories.

However, it seems like you are really concerned about looking unique.  It's really easy to let a desire to look unique cloud your view and you may miss out on the perfect dress for you just because you see it and think it's not unique.  You are the only person in the world that looks like you, and with the hairstyle, makeup, and accessories you choose, you will be completely unique even if tens of thousands of other brides are wearing the exact same dress.

    Good luck!!

This.  And another vote for #2. Here's why: I had the same concerns as you with regards to looking unique. I'm also curvy (which I love too!). My dress is very similar to #2 (also a Mori Lee; same cut, but not lace) and I LOVE the way it fits my body.  It pulls me in in all the right places and accentuates my curves.  It's also really comfortable and I have no concerns about sitting or dancing. I think the cut on #2 is really made for girls like us.  When I first tried it on, I absolutely loved it, but one of the first questions I asked was, "Does it look too much like every other dress?" After some thinking and some advice from mom and sis, I realized exactly what PP said; it will be unique because it's on ME and I am ANYTHING but just another bride!

Like everyone says, at the end of the day, you have to go with what you feel best in.  If you feel comfortable/pretty/like YOU in any one of those dresses and not the others, that's your dress.

#1 came in a close second, BTW; it's also very pretty and unique. Good luck!

  • Absolutely love dress #1! I am big on lace myself ( I am wearing Justin Alexander 8641) and I also tried on the Mori Lee (dress2) and it was just too plain.  The bolero really makes the look :)

  • I think Number 1 is by far the most "unique."  All three are popular styles, but like PP said, you will be unique because you are the bride!!  The Maggie gown is probably the most popular.

I'd go for 1.  It is beautiful.

  • My recommendation is to try each dress on and leave it on for a few minutes to check for comfort. The ones where the lace is part of the dress, try dancing in it. I know it sounds funny but you want to be comfortable all day & night. I had my heart set on a dress with a lace top, I lasted 5 minutes in the dress and had to have them take it off fast as the lace was so itchy

The second dress is nice and sounds like it would be flattering for your body.  I would probably add a belt to it too.  I am not sure how old you are but the other two dresses are more suited, I think, for either a mature bride or one that wants to be more covered for other reasons (ie. religion).

My pet peeve.  Unique is an absolute.  Something is either unique, or it is not.  It cannot be "more unique" or "very unique".  It means one of a kind.  No wedding dress is ever unique unless it has been custom made for the bride!

All three dresses are lovely.  None is unique.  I cannot tell which would flatter you the most.  This is the criteria you should use.  Which one looks best and makes you feel wonderful and beautiful?

I love the second one with the keyhole shrug. It looks very unique and delicate.
  • I am actually close to your height, body shape and weight and we clearly have similar tastes since the first dress i chose to try on is your 3rd picture hah. But i would have to say if your booty is your favorite attribute i would pick dress number two. The buttons will naturally draw everyone's attention :) plus it is just simply gorgeous and shaped for a curvaceous body

I was most drawn to the second dress. I think it really stands out.
  • I love the second one - it feels refined and elegant and will show off your hourglass. And I love the versatility of the keyhole shrug. I actually do like the flower!

  • I like the first one the best.
