Shower Invite Dilemma - WWYD (Didn't want to threadjack)

I have a shower invite dilemma as well.  I don't know when my shower is - but I do not that it is a shower/bachelorette combined weekend about three hours from where FI & I live (and everyone invited to the wedding on FI's side).

WWYD in these situations:
  • FI asked that I invite a few of his late mom's friends to the shower (godmother and another family friend). I am hesitant because I don't want to look gift grabby...  They definitely wouldn't be invited to the bachelorette party.
  • FI's sister - who I am friendly with (talk to her more than he does) and then a few of his girlfriends - who I'm also friendly with...But not friendly enough to want to have them at my bachelorette. If they are invited - and come to the shower - I feel rude not inviting them to the bachelorette (same night) since they drove three hours to get there.
Thoughts?

Re: Shower Invite Dilemma - WWYD (Didn't want to threadjack)

  • I think the confusing aspect is that they both are on the same day.  I agree that some of those people should be included to the shower, but not necessarily the bachelorette party.

For his late mother's friends, I would invite them to the shower.  They can always decline and an invitation does not mean they need to get you a gift.

As for his sister and friends, I would invite them to both.  If you are not as close as you say, they will probably either decline the 2nd party (bachelorette) or just take on a "the more the merrier" type of attitude. There is no reason to not include them if other people in their age group are included.

  • @jenphotochick - those were my thoughts exactly! But one of my bridesmaids lives in Florida and she wanted to be a part of both and I didn't want her to have to pay for THREE plane tickets (shower, bachelorette and wedding).  So - we will make the best of it :) I've been to one where they were all in the same day and it actually turned out quite nice - because it gave a few hours of downtime to catch up and relax.  Another benefit that I saw was it ended earlier (I'm normally in bed by 11 on a Friday/Saturday - unless I HAVE to stay up).
