Cocktail hour neccesary?

I did not really book a hall where there is two separate rooms where you would have cocktail hour in one room and the reception in the other. I have a huge room for my reception. My question is can you have your cocktail hour and reception in the same room or cancel the cocktail and just start the reception?

You don't have to have a cocktail hour. People typically just use cocktail hours as a way to host their guests to avoid a gap between the ceremony and reception times. As long as your ceremony and reception are back-to-back (or back-to-back with travel time), you do not need one.

Though I would make sure the bar is open as soon as guests start arriving.

  • Ok thats makes perfect sense, I will just make sure the bar is open once people come in!

    Thanks!!
  • Yes, you can do either.

  • I don't think a cocktail hour is even necessary. Just go for the big reception!!

  • I think that it would be just fine to have the cocktail hour in the same room. Cocktail hours are  usually because guest are waiting for the bridal party to finish up photos and the staff to prepare the food. It is better then hungry people staring at each other.
