Thoughts about tipping vendors?

Hi Ladies,
As my wedding date approaches I am trying to get all my finances in order. I know The Knot has a handy cheat sheet on tipping vendors, but a lot of the suggestions are optional, so I wanted to get some opinions. Which of your vendors will your/or did you tip and what percentage did you give them? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Kim

Re: Thoughts about tipping vendors?

  • Hi Kim.
I will tip them if they do a good job, If they don't, I won't. :)
I would tip the videographer, photographer, hair stylish, make up artist and that's it. Give them 15% of whatever your total package is.

  • Have you read this article about tipping vendors on the knot?

    http://wedding.theknot.com/wedding-planning/wedding-budget/articles/wedding-vendor-tipping-cheat-sheet.aspx

We plan to tip modestly, nothing too extravagant.  I plan to send thank you notes to all our vendors soon after the wedding.

Good luck with your wedding!  Can't wait to read your reviews when you come back as a MRS.!!!!
  • Thanks KCLingren. Thanks so much for the article.  I actually forgot about musicians :) also, I wasn't thinking right about the videographer and the photographer's tip percentage. Now that I am looking for a photographer I see that most of them are around $3000 - $4000  ... if I give 15% that would be around $500 ... wow. thats way too much.
If I do tip them, I will give about $100 to each person :)
Hair stylish and make up artist, I will still give them 15%

  • When it comes to tipping vendors, I think you also have to keep in mind whether or not they are an employee or own the company. If say a photographer or videographer is the owner of the company, I don't believe it is necessary to tip them.
