Aisle runners?

Do they logistically work for an outdoor wedding? Or is there another recommended alternative? Thank you!!!

Re: Aisle runners?

  • I don't think aisle runners work logistically for most weddings.  Every time I've seen them, they have flown around while trying to be unrolled or bunched in places while everyone was walking on it.  I saw one bride almost fall :-(

Could you line the aisle with something instead?  Many people rose petals.  I used rose petals attached to wide white ribbon so they woudn't blow away or need to be swept up.

  • Depending on surface it won't work. I had an indoor wedding & skipped it per the suggestion of my photographer. They said depending on the shoes the BM were they will put holes in it (causing a potential tripping hazard for them) and it tends to get shuffled around. And then when you walk down it will get shuffled around. So then if the photographer tries to get any shots of you from behind walking down the isle to get the beauty of dress from behind, you have a messed up isle runner in the photo which takes away from the dress. And then in any other photos you risk having the crooked runner on the photo
  • I'm getting married on the beach and I'm using burlap as a runner. Everyone will be barefoot though so no chance of shoes getting stuck through it. I'm really only using it because my dress has a small train and I don't want to drag the whole beach to the alter with me on the bottom of my dress :)

Using a runner would probably depend on your venue. For example, if you're getting married in a garden and your girls are wearing heels I probably wouldn't use one. Having a girls shoe go through the runner and start dragging it down the aisle with her wouldn't be any good.

  • I bought rug runners. It had rubber backing, so I didn't have to worry about my heels poking through. They aren't cheap though, but it was worth it for me.

  • I would skip the runner and stick with the ohter suggestions made.  I am also going to use sheppards hooks along the aisle to help "dress up" and "designate" my aisle, but no runners for me!
  • I ended up using shepherd's hooks with glass jars/flowers instead.  The walkway was concrete, but it will would not have logistically worked.  :)

    Thanks!
