Wedding Dresses - Where to go?

Hi Gals-

I'm starting to look for my dress (we're willing to travel to most parts of CT but prefer the Fairfield county area). I've looked up about 10 different places between CT and Westchester and it seems like they all have SUPER negative reviews and then also some really good ones. Not sure where to go and where to stay away from. Anyone have any recommendations?

It's out of Fairfield county, but check out the wedding dress in portland, ct.  I got my dress from there (an essence of australia gown) and had a really really great experience.  The shop is small, but they have a lot of dresses to choose from, and carry designers that other shops in CT do not carry (like Essence).  My consultant was Lisa and she was absolutely fabulous to work with, as was the owner of the shop (Shelly) and their seamstress.
  • They just opened a David's Bridal in Norwalk so u could try there also

  • I traveled to Mariella Creations in Rocky Hill from Mystic, and my experience was fantastic. Admittedly, the lady at the front desk was a bit standoffish, but once my consultant came and brought me upstairs (where bridal is, bridesmaids are on the first floor) everything went well.  Her name was Sonya, she did a good job listening to me and paid attention to what worked on my body.  She was never pushy or tried to upsell me.  After we found the dress, I then asked her about veils-- she found one that complimented the dress and my pixie haircut very well.  My mother and two friends were treated exceptionally well by the staff, too.   We went there specifically because of the designers they carried-- it was a great selection.
  • Classic Brides by Eva in Stratford.  Eva is absolutely the sweetest woman in the whole world.

  • bridal bells in berlin it is out of the fairfield area but the owner is super nice and she carries dresses in  all sizes up to a 30 in samples to try on. she has a huge slection of dresses by morilee, jasmine, venus and a few other designers. she is very resonable not pushy and know what looks good on your body.
  • I had great luck at The White Dress By The Shore in Clinton.

They offered fantastic service and while their dresses are on the pricier side, I wound up getting a sample and leaving with it that day.

The girls really want to make sure that the service is personalized to make your day the best possible.    They also did a great job with MIL's mother of the occasion attire.
  • Julie Allen Bridals in Newtown is where I purchased all of my dresses. They were fantastic to work with.
  • Julie Allen Bridals in Newtown is very nice. We went there for bridesmaid dresses. Just be aware that they walk into the dressing room to see if you need help without caring if you're undressed. I get the feeling a lot of places do this- the workers are used to seeing half-naked women, ha.

Classic Bride by Eva was nice too! Smaller store but still a very good selection.

I got my wedding dress at Harold's in New Haven. Huuuuge store, lots of dresses, great staff. You get your own changing room with a giant mirror.

  • Occasions Bridal in Bethel is also great to work with. My mom purchased her wedding dress there 15 year ago when she married my Stepfather, I just got my dress there as well. Gail the owner is amazing and will do everything she can for you.

  • I just went today to Mariella Creations in Rocky Hill and had a great experience.  Nella was an excellent consultant and respected my price point. I did not want to buy today since it was my first appointment and want to have my sister see any dress before I make the final purchase.  She was understanding of this and did not pressure me to buy at all.

While it's not in Fairfield county, I definitely recommend The Wedding Embassy in Oakville.  My girls and I all got our dresses there.  We had made appointments elsewhere and cancelled them because they were so amazing to work with!
  • @Mona8 I love your dress and your pic :)
