Ceremony Site- Need Advice

My fiance and I have chosen our reception venue! Yay! We were originally planning on having our  ceremony and reception at the same place but we do not like the ceremony space at the venue we chose for our reception. So we are now looking for an outdoor ceremony site preferably on the water (ocean or river) in Southeastern Connecticut. I have thought of Harkness since its down the road from our venue but am looking at other option as well. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Ceremony Site- Need Advice

  • Wow ! Congrats! Did you put a deposit yet?

Gillette Castle rents the terrace for wedding ceremonies at a reasonable price. It's breathtaking but they only allow 50 guests max.

What month is your wedding? Are you set on it being outdoors? Where is the reception? These are details that will help us give you suggestions.
  • No deposit yet! They allow us to hold a date for two weeks without a deposit. Right now the date is September 7th 2014. I would love for it to be outdoors waterviews are not necessary. The reception is at the Great Neck Country Club in Waterford
  • What about Olde Mystik Village?  There's a little chapel there.
  • There's the Old Lighthouse Museum in Stonington. It's right on the water.
  • I definitely like the looks of the Old Lighthouse Museum in Stonington, but we've been to a wedding recent at the chapel in Mystic Village and its too small for wedding.
