What to Wear Out of the Venue

We are getting married in September. Our ceremony and reception will be at the same location and I'll be getting dressed there. We are getting a hotel room for that night. I'm not sure if I should wear my wedding dress out of the venue when we leave for the hotel or if I should change into something else.

What do you guys think?

I'm afraid it will look funny to show up at the hotel in a big, bulky wedding dress.

Thanks!!

Re: What to Wear Out of the Venue

  • Our friends got married in October and basically has the same setup as you do. She just changed in the "bridal suite" back into some jeans and a sweatshirt to leave for the hotel. But most of the guests had left and we had to help clean out the venue before they left.

Are you making the leaving of the venue an "event" for all the guests to see?  If so,  I would just wear the dress to the hotel, I think it would be kind of fun to show up at the hotel in my dress.

  • I'm planning on staying in my dress until I get to the hotel. I've never heard of a hard and fast rule, so it's up to you. I would probably think it was odd if you changed.

I wore my dress to the hotel and they actually gave us a little discount for the night!
  • I changed into a white shirt and a cute black knee-length skirt and kept on the silver heels I wore at the wedding.

Like @liatris2010, I changed at the venue into my gown, kept it on and headed back to the hotel. There, I sat in the hotel lobby until 4:00am. I would've slept in it and worn it to brunch the next day if I could've. Don't take it off - you won't feel funny and the day of your wedding you'll want everyone to know you are the bride.

Thanks you guys! I guess it's true I'll only be able to wear it once and it IS the most important dress I'll ever wear (unless you count the hospital gown they put you in for child birth :P) I think I'll stay in it. But I'll likely take a set of clothes to change into just in case.
