Gift Ideas for Parents of the Bride and Groom?

Any good ideas for what to get my parents and the groom's parents as gifts. I have been looking at some things but wanted to see what some others have done. How much do you spend? I tend to think a more sentimental item might appreciate more then something expensive. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

  • The price varies based on what you can afford, but I know wedding albums are popular.

  • We gave my mom a nook with accessories.  We gave dh's parents a gift certificate for a B&B.
  • We will be giving out parents a nice picture frame with a picture from our engagement photo session.  We've never had professional pictures done and we will be including out 4 year old daughter so I know they would love it.  After the wedding we did order two parent albums for them too.

Just put together a nice album for them if you want to give a gift.

I personally think the gifts are not necessary, although a very nice gesture. Honestly when it comes down to it, I think more than a gift- most parents just want to see their daughter and son happy. I know that's what my parents want more than any kind of tangible gift.

  • We have 4 separate gifts to get as both of our parents are divorced. We are planning on getting each one a gift certificate to a favorite restaurant.  A friend of mine went off of her mother and in-laws interests. She got her mom an iPod shuffle because she had been talking about wanting music to listen to while on her breaks at work, and her husband's parents a Keurig machine, because they had been talking about wanting one for a while.

Look into what they like to do, where they like to shop/eat, etc. It doesn't have to be expensive, but acknowledging in some way that their prescience and participation in your day was appreciated, I think is necessary.

</div><div>We're planning doing a stitched handkerchief with a cute message from Etsy for each of them with a picture frame and a note that says that we'll send them a wedding photo after the wedding to keep in the frame. Also writing them a heartfelt letter.

I have three hankerchiefs that a former boss brought me from Ireland. I am having one monogrammed with the wedding date for me to carry. The second will be embroidered for my mom to say "Today a bride, forever your little girl" with the wedding date. The third will be for my fiance's mother and will say "Thank you for raising the man of my dreams" also with the wedding date. I am going to purchase a nice men's hanky and have the same embroidered for his dad (my father is deceased). I plan to give the hankies at the rehearsal dinner. Our wedding is right before Thanksgiving so we also plan to give his parents their Christmas present while they are here for the wedding...a Christmas quilt that my mother is making for them.
  • Wow! That's a really nice idea! Makes me tear up a little :)
  • We bought my parents tickets to see Bill Cosby do stand up, which is something I know they'll enjoy.  I will probably also add in a gift card to a nearby restaraunt to make it a full evening out on us.  We haven't picked gifts for my FI's family yet.
