Old, New, Borrowed, Blue?

I know that this is kind of a silly question and not at all important in the grand scheme of things, but can an item do 'double duty' for this?  I know that some people don't bother with the old, new, borrowed, blue thing at all, even.  For example, I'm wearing my dad's girlfriend's mother's (a mouthful, I know) pearl earrings and necklace for my wedding.  Could this count as both something borrowed and something old?  I was really close to her mother, who passed away 5 years ago and am honoured that she offered to lend me the jewelry.

What do you all think?

Technically no. But you can really do whatever you want. The borrowed and old have different meanings associated with the traditions so they're not supposed to be combined.

My something old is my grandma's diamond from her engagement ring, which is set into a new necklace. Is it technically correct? No, but it means a lot to me, so I'm going with it.
