Seating Charts VS Escort Cards

Are they really necessary? Im thinking about all the paper products i would need for the wedding (invitations, programs, menus) but i went to a wedding this weekend and the girl didnt have a seating chart but there was a guy there kinda telling ppl what table they were to sit at and i was wondering like hmmm DO I REALLY NEED A SEATING CHART? (besides it being a pain to get together, what would i do with this chart after the wedding and how expensive would it be to even have one made) Or would it be better and less expensive to just have escort cards printed with the table numbers on them??? Any help is appreciated ladies..

    I am debating with this as well. I found a seating chart on zazzle.com for $24.00 printed on a nice poster board in color and delivered. I also found some printable place cards at joanns for $4.99 for 50. I want to have less conjestion as possible at the door. Leaning towards place cards though. Im not gonna do menus or programs either.

    Im thinkling what I am going to do is have a seating chart and no escort cards..because I just dont want to do them... I think the mister's cousin voulnteered to do both but im not feeling that im thinking i will make one on the computer and take it to kinkos and have them print it out and that is it

    Yea im debating on that considering again, Where in the heck am i gonna keep a big poster board seating chart after the wedding and really what will i need it for after that date?? So im thinking escort cards it is that way ppl can keep it if they want or throw it away after its all said and done!!!

    I used escort card db/c I didnt want everyone crowding around at a poster board trying to figure out where to go. To me it seemed much easier to have the cards in alphabetical order on the table & ppl were just able to find their names that way. They were very cheap. I got them from Hobby Lobby for like $5/ pack & used a 50% off coupon on them as well. They were very easy to make & very cute :)

    I think it depends on personall preference.  I agree with Ladycane though. I didn't want folks crowded around a board.  I am gonna do escort cards.  I have a graphic designer that is designing all things paper for me but I think I will have her forego the escort cards and just print them myself with cards I can get from michaels or hobby lobby.....
