Question for anyone who has gotten an ivory dress from David's Bridal

This question may sound odd, but I ordered my dress from David's Bridal (style 9010 in ivory) at the end of June, it is not expected to be in until October, at which point I will need to start alterations (my wedding is in December). I am trying to pick a corset for under the dress now so I will have it before the dress comes in. Has anyone else gotten an ivory dress from David's Bridal and can tell me if any other colors besides white/ivory will work underneath (without showing through)? Thanks!

  • My dress is ivory but I guess I don't understand what you're asking... Is your dress super thin or something?  I could wear black if I wanted and nobody would see...but my dress is ridiculously thick (at least it feels so when it's on!).  Is there a reason you don't want to do white/ivory?  I think it's pretty standard.
  • Skin toned.

Skin tone should have nothing to do with what color undergarments you are wearing.  Unless you are planning to give the guests a show at the end of the night.  I'm confused.

OP - I'd pick light undergarments.  What colors are you looking at?  What kind of material is your dress?

ETA: Reading interpretation fail.  I thought "skin toned" in previous comments was referring to ivory vs white dress for skin tone reasons, not the actual color of undergarments.  Sorry ladies!
  • Rule of thumb is skin tone under white/ivory.

  • I don't think white/ivory corsets are very pretty and wanted to have a red corset on underneath. No I do not want to give everyone a show, hence why I am asking now, before I buy anything. The dress is made of chiffon and I can't remember how thick it is.
  • I wouldn't wear anything other than white or ivory with chiffon.
  • I'm wearing an ivory dress but my undergarments are white. I guess the best thing to do would be  ask your consultant at Davids Bridal what they would suggest. Every material is different.
  • Well in that case, you could either wear some sort of slip on top of your corset. Or you could just wear skin-toned under garments under you dress even if they aren't the prettiest and then put on something red/more fancy later on for your wedding night.

  • wear something COMFORTABLE under your dress in either white/ivory/nude. You can change into your red lingerie at the hotel on your wedding night.

I just wore long spanx underneath in nude and my dress was a very light flowy satin.

  • I've worked in David's Bridal's alterations department and I know that dress.  I don't think a red bra will show through it, but you need to be careful that it won't pop out anywhere such as the back or show down the front if you bend over.  But in my opinion, the satin layer under the chiffon and the lining layer should be enough to conceal the red.
  • Skin tone would definitely be the safest way to go.
