Where did you get yours?
How much was it/will it be?
How many will it feed?

Re: cakes!

  • I have all the same questions! Plus 1 more, if you bought cupcakes or mini cupcakes how did you decide on the quantity? Sorry for hijacking
  • At the moment we are getting ours from retro bakery. $45 for the cake on top of a 3 tier cupcake set up. Each cupcake with a dice on top is $3 each. Delivery and set up will be $50. So total for cake, 36 cupcakes, delivery and set up is $203. Since we are at Maggianos we will be adding it to our room minimum.

  • We got the cupcakes because we are getting Maggianos sweet table so guests can help themselves as opposed to a plated cake. I personally prefer to eat cupcakes and have just left the cake at most weddings ive been to.

Mo..$45 for a cake? Really? Do you have a picture of tgw cake you've chosen?
    Wedding Countdown Ticker Visit LasVegas.Weddings.com
  • I think she means the 6 inch top cake, it feeds like 7. Retro prices for those start at 25 and go up depending on the design
  • @ stoiic thats correct - it is just a topper cake for my cupcake stand. FI and I will still cut it and guests are welcome to eat it if they so wish! I have attached a picture anyway.

Valerie - have you checked out the cakes at Albertsons? They actually make wedding cakes at pretty good prices. You should definitely visit them on your scouting trip. I spoke to them about deli platters for my wedding morning and the lady was trying to upsell me a wedding cake.

  • I am currently looking at Freeds (not completely finalized) and will also be doing the cupcake tower. The prices are very similar to Retro (I think the cupcakes may be $3.50 each). I like the cupcake towers because I can get the tiered look without ordering too much cake (there will be less than 20 of us) and people can chose from a few different flavors.

My only issue is that I want to be able to try the flavors/frosting before I finalize the order!!!! but unless I make a trip out there, I don't see that happening!

  • We haven't looked into it too much but we will probably go with The Cupcakery- we've gotten them for birthdays and such and never been disappointed. Maibel03 if you make a trip I'd stop by there as well- it is less than a quarter mile from Freeds. Nothing Bundt Cakes is in that area as well and is something else we'll consider. Their "bundtinis" are smaller and cheaper than cupcakes so guests wouldn't have to decide between flavors they could get a few.
  • Thanks for the tip!

We ordered ours from las vegas custom cakes (http://www.lasvegascustomcakes.com/) they have been great to work with.

Ours will feed up to 75 people. It is a 4 tier cake. Ours was included with our package but I think she said the butter cream 4 tiers are about $300 and up.

  • If anyone is doing a scouting trip I would definitely recommend doing a cake tasting as I really hated my cake. I couldn't as I was planning from the UK. I didn't actually include the cake part in my reviews as I felt I was being unfair on the bakery as I haven't seen a bad review on them, everyone seems to rave about them so I thought it might just be my taste, particularly being from the UK as our cakes are a bit different. Although, I would say that I do usually love anything sweet. Only one of my guests liked the cake and they also like Costco cake - don't know if Costco do the same large birthday cakes in the US that they do in the UK but I don't like that and he does. I can still eat the Costco cake though, if its a birthday party and that's the only cake that's there I'll probably eat a bit but I just couldn't eat this at all so if possible do a tasting! It wasn't a big deal for me and on the day I couldn't have cared less about the cake, I was so full after dinner and I only had nine guests, all very close family who were all really full too!
  • We're using Freeds. They're highly recommended by our venue. And they also have the best Red Velvet cake in town.

  • We paid Freeds $871 for a three tier cake to feed 110 but the actual cake would have easily fed 150.  Price included tax and delivery.  Full review and pics at:

  • I think I might be going with fairy tale cakes. They quoted me 175 with delivery for a 2 tier cake to feed 35 :) I sent them some photos of what I gave in mind and they said it can be done :)

  • I just posted this somewhere else but I booked with Gimme some Sugar. I paid around $200 which includes delivery and that is for a 3 tier cake with pearls and satin ribbon. It is to feed 50 -60 people and has upgraded fillings. You can email them a couple of pics of the cakes you like and they will give you prices.

The Cupcakery's communication sucks for me. They were good initially but once I sent them a couple inspiration pics to see what they could or could not do, nothing. It's been days now. I'm going to wait through the weekend then I'm moving on. I just wanted a small 4 or 6 in cake...you would think I wanted to feed all of LV!!!
  • @KikiMira Did you hear back from LVCC pretty quickly? I emailed them on Wednesday to get a quote but haven't heard back yet.

I did ask for a fairly complex quote (different sizes and # of tiers of cake) and I'm sure they're super busy with wedding season so  I'll give them at least a week before I cross them off my list but just curious if that's common. Also, did you get a chance to do a tasting?
  • katelynswartz I checked my email and it was at least 3 days for her to get back to me. I dealt with Christina she was helpful. Our cake is included with our venue so, she didn't have to supply a quote for me, just an appointment for cake tasting and selection.

  • We are going with Retro as well, 6 dozen min cupcakes and a 6" topper!

it will be about 130 with delivery!

  • @KikiMira Thanks for the info! I'll definitely wait a little longer, I am just antsy :-P
  • I used Freeds and added it to my room minimum at Maggiano's. We had a 10 inch tier and a 6 inch tier with a custom design. Total cost including delivery was $394, but it tasted awesome.
