Wedding Night Hotel

If you're staying in a hotel on your wedding night, when are you planning on checking in?

The E board would tear me a new one for being rude, but we have a gap. Our ceremony is at 2:30, reception starts at 6. Can't check into the hotel room until after 3pm, and I don't think we'll want to delay getting up to the room after the reception (if you catch my drift). (WWYD in my shoes?)

Call the hotel and see if you can get an early check in!

We are staying at a hotel that night too, and I am wanting to get ready in the hotel room.

Although our wedding time isn't until 6pm so its a little easier for us.
  • I think I am going to have FI check us in - its 3pm as well, and the ceremony is at 4. He can check in to the hotel, and then head on over to the ceremony site. I will be at the ceremony site at 2:30.

  • As we are getting married out of town we will already be there the night before the wedding.  However, I do agree with rhawndas and I would see if they would allow you to check in early.

  • Not everyone can have it exactly like the rest of the world THINKS it should go.  Life (and shit) happens.

I agree; go check in during your gap.  Take some time and just enjoy being alone together (call it your "Second Look").  Revel in the reality that you're now a Mrs!  EXCITING!!  And, hey...if you've got time to squeeze in some 'afternoon delight'...I'd do that!!

I don't think we're getting a hotel room that night.  I haven't broached the topic yet, because his Nanny'll be staying at our house...but I may still see if we can't get one for at least one night alone together.  Especially since our wedding and reception are so early in the day, we'd have time to get everyone settled and then sneak out for the rest of the day.

I can't believe that almost all of us are getting down into the double digits!

I was actually starting to think we could make our escape from the ceremony and go check into the hotel right then - not necessarily bring our bags up to our room, but at least grab the key. But, I don't know if we're going to do family pictures before or after the ceremony. Maybe we'll make our escape after those pictures (if we do them post-ceremony) go check in, and then get up to the reception location. Hmmm... I'll have to talk to FH more about this...

@shaylagirl do it. you only get one wedding night. you don't need to spend a fortune on a room.

    Edit: clarity
  • we got out wedding night hotel booked- but honestly i havent thought of the plan after that, our wedding is 40 minutes north of where we booked our hotel, because it is closer to the airport. i'm guessing we will just have all our luggage in my car and go from there...

  • I staying at our wedding hotel the night before the wedding with my sister and her girls and them FI and I will stay there the night of the wedding. We have a good drive from our house and the reception doesn't end until 11 so we won't feel like driving.

  • I can't even find a hotel that's not shady with an opening!! :(

  • I may ask my mom if she can check us in while we are taking pictures.  The room is under my name so no biggie, and my bag will already be in her van, and I can plan to have FI's stuff in my bag too at least for the wedding night.

We have a few little fun things, like bride and groom bottle covers that people bought us that can decorate the room a bit.
  • I don't think we've full decided on whether or not we are staying at a hotel after the reception. The reception ends at 5 pm, and there is a hotel next to the venue. However, we don't have a lot of out of town family and those that are coming are staying with other family members. We could get a room for ourselves, but it doesn't really seem necessary.

I guess if we do decide to get one, we will just check in after the reception. There really isn't any other time during the day to do so (normal check in time is smack in the middle of the reception)

  • I'm staying in my wedding night hotel the night before also (with my mom) - because my wedding starts at 2pm so I really need to start getting ready in the morning. I'd prefer to not have to worry about getting my stuff to the hotel later on my wedding day, so this way, it's already there!

It's an expensive hotel which is the only downside :/ about $300 a night!
  • I found a hotel!!!  WOOHOO! it's booked! I'm not sure why it was so hard to find an open hotel.  It MAY be because I live near Cowboys Stadium and they'll be playing the Broncos that weekend, but I'll choose to think it's because all of our guests have already booked their hotel rooms and left none for us.

  • @kstan08; I thought it was the AT&T stadium now?  ;)

Anywhoodles, I asked FI if we could get a hotel room for AT LEAST that night.  He said "Can we see how the budget shakes out?  But, probably."

I even tossed out an evening in San Antonio.  That'd be awesome.  :)  SO YAY!!!
  • My BM's and I are getting ready at the hotel, so I'm checking into the hotel friday evening. At the hotel we are staying my FI and I's room is free for the night of. I think a lot of hotels in the area offer the same thing.
  • @shaylagirl I'm a little slow on my roll.  It is!  I can't believe they paid so much money to get their name on it.  You can't even get a good signal in there anyway...

  • I got super lucky.... No Colts game that weekend means our wedding night hotel has a view of the stadium. No Purdue game (though I DID check that one) means my FFIL won't be cranky because he's missing a game.
  • @snippet17 I'm sort of half considering registering for the half in May.... I have several friends who live in the area still and I'm trying to think of an excuse to drag FH to the Science Museum... (but only if we can go sit in the Earthquake Cafe - it's still there, right?)
  • @snippet17 I am so thankful no one is playing in Pittsburgh that weekend! Now I just got to keep people away from the TV since Penn State is playing Ohio State for a night game.

I wouldn't bother trying to keep them away... they'll probably just leave your reception if you try to keep them from it. PSU vs OSU is a big game - not quite rivalry worthy, but still pretty big.
  • @alison I miss State College football weekends. :( 2008 was the worst year because for some reason students decided to rage in the streets for every win. I'm trying to make it to Blue and White next year, especially now that FSIL will have an apartment downtown.
  • @alison I thought the same thing about rent, but here in Ann Arbor rent is worse and I pay hundreds of dollars more in rent for about the same distance from campus.
  • @alison I work in Carleton for one more week until switching jobs to Ann Arbor.
  • we are actually checking in after the rehearsal dinner. FIL reserved it for the night before, night or, and i believe night after. We are staying in a hotel Casino; with his accrued points. It helps us out a lot. Checkin wasn't until like 4pm and checkout was like 10am.  (too late to get ready, and too early to leave sober LOL)
