My Grandma's Gone

I haven't been on here lately but I realize I need a distraction. My grandmother passed away on Friday afternoon. She was diagnosed with kidney cancer only 2 months ago. She was extraordinarily healthy so it was a huge shock.

We were very close, I lived with her for 10 years, and my children adored her.

She was the most excited about my wedding and talked about it constantly. It breaks my heart that she won't be there. I held her hand as she passed and we will have a chair at the ceremony for her.

Thanks for reading... Sorry to be a downer... I just needed to vent and plan this wedding as she would have wanted me to.

Re: My Grandma's Gone

  • I'm so very sorry. You and your family are in my thoughts.
  • I'm so sorry, elizabeth. It's the worst when it's unexpected. I'm glad to read that you were able to be there with her.

I'm sorry about your grandma. But I don't think I'd do the chair thing. Do something more unique and personal. Use some of her favorite flowers in your bouquet, wear something of hers. The chair thing would just me cry and for all the wrong reasons if I were a guest, even if I didn't know your grandma. Plus these ideas are more specific to her, so it's almost like she is there, rather than an empty chair putting emphasis on the fact that she's not.
  • Thanks y'all for the well wishes.

@Teddy917 I already planned on having the hair piece she wore when marrying my grandpa in my bouquet. Our guest list is tiny (16ppl not including us). I honestly haven't gotten that far as to a chair for her etc. Really I meant that somewhat figuratively as of now.
  • Ok. That sounds beautiful that your using her hairpiece.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I think using her hairpiece is a great way to remember her on your wedding day.

  • I'm really sorry for your loss. My FMIL was just diagnosed with colon cancer so I know how sudden it is. You're in my thoughts and I think it's really sweet that you're wearing your grandmother's hairpiece for the wedding. I'm sure she'll love that.

Thank you. Cancer is just a horrible sickness. I wish your FMIL well... Such awful news. Spend as much time with family as you can!
  • So sorry for your loss. The hairpiece will be gorgeous in your bouquet.
  • So sorry about your loss. I feel your pain cause my grandma died from cancer only a few months about she was diagnosed. She passed away over 8 years ago but I still miss her.
