We revealed our Disney vacation to the kids

I jump on any opportunity to do a "reveal".

The girls' favorite disney characters for this second are Ariel and Cinderella.  So I bought a sheet of Ariel, Cinderella and Mickey scrapbook paper and cut it down to 8.5X11.  I downloaded a free disney font and wrote each of the kids a personalized letter from the character, inviting them to disney to come take a picture with the character and ride the rides, yadda yadda.

We gave the letters to the kids yesterday and recorded it.  I'm so glad we did.  The girls were so excited and Son played along very well.  He's such a good sport.

I pinterested my heart out last night, looking for cute countdowns we can make and activities for the road.  I think I'm just as excited as the kids.  I may or may not have used the disney font to create our itinerary for that week.

Oh and we are going to tell the girls that if they're good at the parks, a disney character will leave them a present in our hotel room each day.  We went to the party store and bought the little $0.35 favors like bracelets from Tinkerbell, cameras that are viewfinders from Phineas and Ferb, silly straws with Mickey Mouse on them, etc.
  • This is all too cute!!  How fun!  :)

Are you guys staying on or off Disney?
  • Yay!  I'm so excited for you!

I cannot wait to take our kid.

  • We are staying on site.  That way we can go back for a rest/nap if we need to and be able to be at the parks as long as possible.  We didn't want to feel stuck there if one of the kids is melting down.

Also, the last time we were there was 3 years ago, so it's not like we go often.  I think staying on site adds to the fun.

  • I'd love to stay on Disney sometime, but I can't get anything on site through work.  Womp, womp.  And free is hard to pass up even if it means we have to stay a little further out.

We probably won't take DefConn until he's 4 or 5.  We took the kiddo when he was almost 10 and we had the best time with him because he could do everything we wanted to do.
  • I know my ILs are booking our trip the second he can say Disney.  We might go in 2015 or 16 to do the marathon again.

  • Son was 9 when we went last time and he had so much fun.  That trip was for him, thinking it was the last time he'd be at disney and still be "a kid".  You know, not too cool for it all?

I think he's pretty excited for this trip.  We had DVRed a couple Disney shows from the travel channel - behind the scenes type stuff and he watched them and talked about them all night.  He's been talking about all the rides he wants to ride and how he wants to do Summit Plummet again.  FTR, I WILL NOT be doing Summit Plummet.  Never again.

  • @alikatt17 - this age is really fun.  I do not expect the girls to remember this trip, but they'll still have fun and they'll have tons of pictures to look back on.  I'm sure we'll try to get back there in another 3-4 years.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if my ILs wanted to take him (and us! yay!) every couple of years.

Do NOT go on Mission to Mars.  I was sick for 2 days afterwards.  It was horrible.

  • Hee.  The rides don't bother me.  It's just that that waterslide had some unexpected side effects.  I don't know if it still is, but at the time it was the tallest waterslide in the US.  I can say I did it and I don't need to do it again.
  • I didn't mind mission to mars, but it made my sister and the kiddo really queasy.
  • That sounds so fun...take me take me!
  • Awww. That's so cute. You all are going to have a great time.

oooooohhhh that's awesome and so cute.

I started a Disney fund ($10/month and their bday money).  We're going in a few years and thought this would help.

  • Not to crash your post (or tell you how to plan your vacation), but if your daughters like Ariel, be sure to carve out some time to spend in New Fantasyland - the new Ariel ride and the meet-and-greet space are pretty cool. I'd skip eating at the new restaurant there (Be Our Guest), but the decor is amazing, especially if anyone likes Beauty and the Beast.
  • No, you HAVE to eat at Be Our Guest! (it was the most delicious quick-serve lunch I had)  I squeed like a 10 year old girl the entire time.  And then I sang along the entire Ariel ride.

We're checking into restaurant reservations.  We will probably do one nice sit-down dinner - we have a dining plan for the week, so our meals will be quick-service.

Oh! Another little tibit.  DH and I will have our 5 year anniversary while we're there.

  • Oh, fun! Be sure to include any celebrations in your reservations (anniversary, first visits, family time); we love to throw in extra surprises!
  • Mexico's fast service was delicious, as is the place in The Land.  We went to Epcot nearly every day to eat, lol.

  • @tawlliers, I don't blame you for not doing summit plummet again. I did that when I was young, stupid, and 13. Since then, I've developed a healthy respect for heights and gravity. Holding on to two bars while the rest of me dangles over the air? No thanks. Typhoon Lagoon, here I come!

Haven't been in a while, but totally recommend the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop at the Disney Beach Club Resort by Epcot. You don't have to be staying there to go to this restaraunt as far as I remember, and it's styled to look like an old fashioned ice cream/ soda parlor. This place SCREAMS summer time foods. Get the whole family a "Kitchen Sink" for dessert, it's great!
