Metro Beach Glass House & Other Waterfront Venues. Please Help :)

Hi all!

I am newly engaged and looking for tips and recommendations from the pros out there :)

My fiance and I are avid sailors, and we would love to have our wedding on the water in the Metro Detroit/Downriver area. Although we both call Michigan home, we now live out of state and are not very familiar with the Detroit wedding scene.

A marina/yacht club would be our first pick, but I am finding that most are either 1) too small (we will need to sit 200 guests), 2) too pricey, or 3) for members/residents only.

I would love to hear some recent thoughts on the Metro Beach Glass House now that it has new caterers. Any and all tips and ideas are welcomed!

I am a DIY-er and love for things to be a bit non-traditional. We want the wedding to represent us in every way, so places that allow and welcome one to add their own flair are highly desired.

Thanks in advance!!

  • We are having ours on the Detroit River at Silver Shores in Wyandotte because my fiancé and I love to fish and being on the water. It has a beautiful view of the river. The chef there is really willing to work with couples on their menu, if they want a certain style or item. We are doing a soft pretzel bar for our late night snack and the chef seems very excited to try out different types of sauces and types of soft pretzels. We have about 225 coming and are holding everything outdoors (ceremony and reception) I believe the indoor space can hold up to 200 though if you are looking for indoor instead of outdoor. The prices are reasonable for a chef who is willing to work with couples on menu.
Alice is the head sales lady there and is wonderful to work with, a bit excited about weddings at times but will do whatever she can to make the couple happy. Hope that helps a bit.
    Good luck :)
  • Thank you for the helpful reply! We will definitely have to check it out!
  • A former Detroit Knottie had her wedding at the Metro Beach Glass House a few years ago, maybe 2-3 years ago. She brought her own caterer.

If you don't know anything about the current/new caterer, ask for references you can call and check.

Good luck. It appears to be a lovely venue if you pursue it.

  • Kosch's catering has the exclusive contract for the Metro Beach Glass House. There is actually an open thread for Kosch's reviews on this board that you may find helpful. :)

We're using the Grosse Pointe War Memorial... it's beautiful and affordable (around $40 per plate which does not include alcohol so we still have to add that through an outside vendor). I suggest looking at it, I fell in love immediately! My friend is also getting married at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club which is also beautiful!! Good luck!!
